Terrible scenes near Northfield Falls as two Central Vermont Railway trains collide yesterday forenoon. Fire erupts, three people confirmed dead. Rescue crews battle flames as wreckage blocks tracks and emergency services cordon off the area.
A northbound freight train and a light engine collided near Northfield Falls in Vermont. Oil tanks exploded, burning wreckage and delaying service. Victims include Frederick Berryman, Joseph Lane, William Brunnell, Leon Dolne. several others injured. Investigations point to signaling or dispatch errors as possible causes.

Borlingtom Aug 22 Arthur Yantow of Williston drowned yesterday afternoon at Timnipwyn Point Mallets Dey. He was camping since Wednesday with Prek Laws renee. They went in swimming though neither was a swimmer. He sank at a ledge in 17 feet of water and did not resurface. Body recovered in about 1 minute. Funeral from Holy Family church at Brees Junction.
Mary Alma Foster of Wisterbury died at her parents’ home in ergpe hete 3 afternoon August 22 after a long illness. Born December 26 in Williamstown she was the daughter of Samuel and Annie Fowler. She taught in local schools and studied at Green Mountain Seminary. A Methodist, she endured illness with faith. Funeral at her home tomorrow afternoon conducted by Rev Forrest. burial in Duxbury. Survived by three brothers Raver of Wil Henantic Conn Lartid of St Johnbury and 1. of New York.
At Schentaen Park during the Platt Deutscher Volksfest a grand stand collapsed as 500 spectators watched Gene Raymond’s ascent. Nine people were seriously injured, three sent to North Hudson Hospital. An estimated 100 stood on the structure when it gave way, trapping others and prompting police to evacuate the area.
A wreck in Pottereville section of Fal River leaves several injured after an automobile overturned. Witnesses report a high speed mishap as the vehicle struck another car, pinning a victim under debris and requiring rapid hospital transport.
In Brockton Massachusetts two Italian men, Salvatore Morelli and an unnamed companion, engaged in a revolver duel last evening. Morelli died at the hospital from wounds while the other man was fatally injured. A third man who might know the motives vanished around the time of the fight. The men were strangers in Brockton and had visited an Italian quarter home earlier.
A historical gathering led by master horseshoers outlined an excursion plan across America. Officers include Raymond as president, J C Carpenter as treasurer, J Ke Cai as state organizer, and J A Mcbeod as assistant organizer. The evening featured a statewide discussion on conditions and future branches, with talks by Mayor Muteh. The day closed after noon adjournment to attend committee sessions.
A London gathering of the general federation of trades unions socialist and labour parties discussed the recent court ruling restricting labor organizations from using members for parliamentary support. Frank Frantoni formerly of New York City dies Sunday afternoon at his nephew John Bottomini’s Webster Avenue home after a long illness of anemia. He was 49, born in July. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Hayes. Interment at the Catholic cemetery.

Mr and Mrs Chorley A McNell and Miss Siukaton of Inbarwen NH attend Mrs Mary J Wright’s gathering for Mr and Mrs Morman Nethon. Relatives visit at their Worsee home with autumn parties and small gatherings noted. A separate note reports G1 Wilbert of the emelle manufacturers receiving word Wertelen county’s granite cup location by skipper’s number.
A buggy colt owned by Witwer Marley was struck by a car on North Main Street, injuring the horse and badly damaging the vehicle's fender. A second incident saw a five-man auto tour fall into a brook near Willianmetown, with minor injuries and no serious damage.
Reports from caucuses show Dr. Barber named unanimously by Thetno crete in Miles hall and Willey defeating Tn rlowe in the Republican contest at Elnyt h Barre opera kater. A union ticket includes Bar bet Willey M A Onebert W Miles Dickey and others. vote: Willey 27 pre 16. In Montpelier Senator Frank M. Carr nominated by Republicans and John T. Senter by Democrats on first ballot 141 to 1. The ticket unanimously nominated by both parties lists Wing Whelan Senter Wood Haley Laird Wheeloc tered Radley Wells Staples Newcomb Shurtett Lamaphere.
Waterbury Aug 22 reports Republicans selected W J Boyce a prominent local businessman for town representative. Duxbury Cavous named J F Cromett for representative. Cromett serves as first selectman. Groton caucus also on Aug 22 nominated Muriel Coffrin for town representative.
A community picnic by the Presbyterian Sunday school occurred Saturday at Caledonia Park under favorable weather. Attendees included families and children enjoying food, games, and singing in a lively, family friendly event.
Crowds clogged streets from dawn as the Munsey tour convoy from Bethlehem to Burlington halted in Montpelier for a parade. Mayors, governors, and car leaders joined the street celebration with banners and bunting adorning Main Street.
The Barre Golf Championship finished Saturday afternoon with Dr Hatehiwor defeating J & Waleth in a close match. Mutlineon beat Averill 4 up with 3 to play while Watea defeated John Reid to reach the final. The title match between Hatehiwor and Waleth was one of the closest ever seen on the Inet links. In the singles, James Held defeated W. Rie 3 up 2 to go to the semis, and Tale fete beat Joho Castle in a tight upstream finish. The tournament concludes with several players advancing and plans for future rounds.
