Mrs. Alva Cave, 28, daughter in law of Rev. R. Je Cave, chaplain of the United Confederate Veterans, was murdered in her Nashville home. Mee J S Jones, 24, recently in divorce suit, is held for inquest, accused of the crime amid jealousy claims.
Bilbao reports 119 fishermen drowned as fourteen fishing boats sank in a four day storm along the coast. The hurricane battered port towns causing extensive damage to the coast and its communities.
In Bellows Falls at the Democratic town caucus held in the banquet hall, Cray defeated Harty for the town representative seat in the general assembly by 40 to 4. Nominations for Justices of the Peace included Savage, Butterfield, Cleary, Harty Jr, Cray, Keefe, Mandline Boldgett, Bay, Byrne, Rudden, Boyle, and Cote.
Francis Vernon Wiley and Arthur T. Saville, Bradford England residents, waived examination and were held on $7,000 bonds for the September term after being charged with conspiring to bring fish mill operatives into the country in violation of the Alien Contract Labor Law. Federal authorities allege they aided 23 English mill workers to enter and work at the Barre Wheel Combing Company mill in Barre, with Wiley as treasurer and Stussy in charge of immigration authorities.
Chicago papers report Jack Johnson signed articles to fight Jeannette in a ten round match at the St Nicholas Athletic Club in New York on September 25. Johnson to receive 2500 plus a percent of receipts and 4 1 2 percent of all over that amount, plus half of moving picture earnings. McMahin posted forfeits with a Chicago official. Dan Tene likely to act as referee.
The USS San Francisco located shoal 18 near Newport Newt, Al, after a battleship incident last week. Officers reported the shoal lies four miles west by south of Point Judith, at depths of 27 to 20 feet below the surface.
Wytheville Virginia August 15 Friel Allen one of the mountain outlaws charged with complicity in the Hillville courier providers Fast March pleaded guilty to murder in the second degree and was sentenced to eighteen years in the penitentiary. Two others have been convicted of murder in the first degree and two more members of the gang are about to be tried.
Nuffale NY August 15 History was made as Joe Patehen the famed pacing horse fell to Knight Onward in the Fort Erie 212 pacing purse at the Fort Erie meet. Knight Onward owned by J. K Grey of Toronto and driven by Nate Ray claimed victory.
A farmer named John M. y. 45 was killed yesterday at Attleborn Massachusetts when lightning struck the wagon he was driving as a team from an express near Briggs's. His wife and child, who were on the same wagon, escaped unharmed. A telegraph messenger accompanying the team perished in the incident.
Aug 1 Newbury Old Home Week centered on reunions of former Newbury Seminary students and Grafton Orange County veterans. Attendees recalled school days, a letter read from Senator Dillingham, Willon Whitcher of Woodsville spoke, and Cow, Mewl and others gave addresses while Col dense R Squires presided. Band concerts complemented the day.
Hot Springs Arkansas Aug 15 Sam Schepps wanted as a material witness in the Rosenthal case left for New York in charge of Assistant District Attorney Rubin and detectives. Rubin followed District Attorney Whitman's directions about the route to take and the probable fine for arrival in New York.

Fred H Beal, a Bethel granite cutter, was elected president of the Vermont state branch of the American Federation of Labor at the Montpelier convention closing today. Fred W Suitor of Barre nominated. Beal won on the first ballot. James Cruickshank of Barre served as election judge with tellers Fugare of Burlington and Howard of Bellows Falls. The gathering adopted resolutions endorsing union labels, opposing nonunion brands, and urging legislative action on labor issues while noting recent strikes and wage talks in other cities. The session closed with a singing of Auld Lang Syne and plans for next year’s meeting in St Johnsbury.
About 15,000 workers in Chicago face heightened tensions as a threatened strike looms on August 1 after a truce agreed to allow company heads to confer with financial backers. The situation centers on labor leaders and corporate executives coordinating through backers to avert disruption.
Bethel Angla Boyer aged 19 died Tuesday evening from a 3.00 volt electric current at the Dothel Blow power house. He was working on a vine line when his father signalled to turn on power, the youth reportedly understood and was killed. Parents are grief stricken and the community mourns a promising electrician and Bethel High favorite. The case recalls a similar fatality involving John Hartwell last April.
A state department proposal would require boilers over 18 horsepower to be inspected and engineers in charge or firemen with 15 or more horsepower to be examined by the state. It also calls for a state capitol department to supervise steam plant operations, aiming to protect life and property and raise engineering skill. A public meeting and banquet followed, with speakers urging workers to unite, resist corruption, and push for progressive reforms in labor and industry.

Andrew Anderson, born in Alva Scotland, died suddenly after a foot injury and internal wounds from an accident at the Wetmore a Moore quarry. The funeral service for Albert Baril was held yesterday afternoon at 3 from his late residence, Rev. Wo J. M. Beattie, pastor of the Church of the Good Shepherd, officiated. Interment was in Hope Cemetery. A meeting of Tampere boxers and derrickmen No. 20 is announced for Monday August 11 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. to elect the international secretary treasurer and a delegate to the A. F. of T. convention in Rochester, N.Y., in November. All members urged to attend.
Barre Town Socialist voters attended caucus Monday evening at Grane ttevilly where Fortin represented by Lawson and several candidates were listed. A town committee was chosen including James Laveen and others. Local residents urged moderation in western and northern areas.
At a Progressive caucus J P Maw named third party candidate Alexander Gordon of Mary & Gonton for city representative. J P Marr and James Mackay backed Gordon, who was supported by Kingston and Ward. The caucus approved a fifteen name ticket for the justice race and planned talks with other party committees Friday night.
