Beaton August 15 The local telegraphers strike shows little change as composition decisions for newspaper copy received via Western Union and Postal wires await the International Typographical Union convention in Gearlon Arkansas. Western Union reports 65 operators at work with delays in messages, while Postal remains at 35.
New York August 1 officers of both telegraph companies declare the strike over. Western Union President Clowery says the strike is ended and they are beaten to a finish. Outward signs support their confidence though messages face indefinite delays in Louisiana and Mississippi.
Oyater Bay New York August 15 President Roosevelt will not intervene personally over the telegraphers strike. Appeals from trade and commercial bodies in many cities urged direct action. Commissioner of Labor Charles P Neil has been active toward a settlement but has not reported to the president. The administration appears to regard its powers as limited while Neil continues talks.
Boston officials Superintendent of Streets James H. Doyle and Councillor James H. Hatter of Charlestown were indicted. Doyle charged with offering a gratuity in a $1,500,000 foam bill matter and Hatter with perjury. Both arraigned before Judge Hehnfield and held for trial. bail set at 2070. An arrest of coal driver John A. Brien followed for larceny of ten tons of coal valued at $8 per ton from New York, New Haven & Hartford yards. The coal was allegedly moved to Thomas, a Kilby Street dealer, and then to a city institution in Roxbury.
A street car dispute in Harlem Avenue Carnasi ends in a fatal wound to a man and injuries to several others. The attacker ran the car two miles to the car barn where about twenty employees aided the conductor. Police and patrols were summoned as personnel tend to the wounded and restore order.
In Poughkeepsie New York the Hudson River Driving Club hosted four heats. Angus Pointer and George GO dominated the pacing and trotting events with wins in heat times around 2.03 to 2.07. Margaret C. upset Beatrice Bellini in the 2:28 trot, while Berleo claimed the 2:13 trot with a 2:00% second mile.
Burlington August 15 three Turkish immigrants from Harpoot and another man linked to Shahen were detained in Chittenden county jail after a tip about a smuggling attempt to cross into the United States. Immigrants intended to link with a border operation near Noran and Albury. Officers shadowed the party by train and foot, capturing them near the Alburgh line. One man, identified with Shahen, fired at officers but caused no injury. The group awaits U S authorities while the smuggling ring is probed. the main aide is believed to have ties to London and Montreal.
New York Aug 15 two people were killed and four injured, one seriously, in an auto accident near Hernandezville, XN. Details list Miss Kumlwind, 15, guard atir. Chauffeur Clark of Far Hills and Adelaide Pepper, Brookly broken arm. Wirth Anglake, Pilton, and others injured as car veered into telegraph pole during a fire.
A fire yesterday afternoon destroyed the brick structure once the Old Island House, now used for manufacturing. The blaze began in the Goble Printing shop, with Simm Hath Whittier and the overall factory on the opposite side escaping with most possessions. Goble faced about $2,000 in uninsured losses. Goble’s printing plant valued at $5,000 to $8,000. the overall factory moved to temporary quarters in Union.
A man, Winfield Marson, 16 years old, formerly a clerk at the Springfield National Bank in Massachusetts, was arrested near Bradley Me by Deputy Sheriff Charles E. Badelife on a charge of larceny of $50,000 from the Kivoper National Bank on July av. The suspect possessed a bag with thousands in new ten dollar gold certificates and new treasury notes totaling about $700.
Burlington August 1 Governor Proctor and staff visited Camp Proctor for Governor's Day events. A large crowd watched maneuvers as the Brown Army alleged moved from St Albans. Several guardsmen were lost in action while the Blue Army reportedly reinforced and the enemy retreated after night clashes.

In Brattleboro on August 14 a Boston and Maine conductor and Mrs James Leahy prevented Mabel Leahy, daughter of Mrs Leahy, from leaving on an excursion at Dummerston station. The girl, recently discharged from the Brattleboro asylum, was visiting her grandfather. the mother chased onto the train but the conductor escorted the girl to the platform, ending the attempt as the train departed with the girl in tears.

William Brooks a 40 year old farmer from Vernon was killed near his home yesterday evening by his brother Foeene Brooks. They argued and when Foeene fired a 45 caliber rifle the safety device jammed and the weapon discharged. The shot struck William in the left brow, killing him instantly. An inquest will be held to determine responsibility. Brooks family mourns the tragedy.

Byron F. Davis, 70, of Walden, has been missing since Monday afternoon. He was last seen at 6 PM leaving his home. family fears possible self harm after threats following his daughter’s death. Davis is described as tall with a full beard, about 180 pounds, wearing a black felt hat, striped shirt, and trousers. search efforts continue.
Raney P. Gosselin pleaded guilty to a liquor violation charge and was fined 39 dollars with 6.05 dollars costs. A seizure included alcohol and related items ordered returned. The Gosselin brothers face license suspension for failing to maintain their fifth class license.
