An enormous landslide hit the town of Hishoe in the Warren mining district near El Paso, destroying property and cutting wires. Authorities report twenty lives believed lost and full details remain unavailable as the disaster unfolds in the 25,000 resident community.
United States District Attorney taker of Washington and his bride of two months, joined by several friends, survived a perilous plunge when their large covered auto lost control on a Walnut Mountain hillside near Libbay New York. The car fell nearly 100 feet, tumbling three times before stopping in a tree thirty feet below the brink. Rescuers freed them. the party then returned to New York for rest at the Hotel Astor before continuing home.
Boston reports Mary Koch aged 82 of Dorchester died instantly and three others were seriously injured when a Blue Hill Avenue collision between an electric car and a vehicle driven by W C Beaver Jr led to a crowd being struck near the Knights of Pythias encampment. Several injured including Miss Alice Cobb and Miss Winifred Waters, with Ralph Montgomery and others, police arrested the driver Seavey in Dorchester without bail.
A Richford couple's car lost a front wheel near Montgomery Center last night. The driver, her husband, and two Richford women escaped serious harm. Mrs Conings suffered a deep head wound and severe cuts but was not ejected. She was taken to Dr. G. S. Clark’s home for care.

United States Senator Wy BR Alfison of Iowa died in Dubuque on Aug 1 after heart failure and illness from age related factors. Born in Perry on March 3, 1821 he studied at Allegheny and Western Reserve, practiced law, moved to Dubuque in 1857, served as Civil War staffer and congressman, then senator from 1875 until death. He was twice a Republican candidate for president and chaired monetary conference at Heusels in 1902.
A breast wound in Wilkie Kirsk’s private quarters Monday night as a Turkish youth attacked a man. The sultan’s mailed garment supposedly saved the victim. the knife broke on impact. The attacker was overpowered and arrested. a gold bribe allegedly hampered the escape.
London reports dated August 5 confirm dispatches from Constantinople about an attempted assassination of the Turkish sultan. The sultan has not appeared in public since Monday, and his movements are described as restricted as authorities investigate the incident.

Fon Aug 3. Robert Reet about 60 years old hanged himself in a barn. He was in poor health and despondent. His wife left a short time to call a neighbor and found him hanging when she returned about a quarter of an hour later. The case appears to be self inflicted.

Severe electrical storm rips through Washington County causing extensive damage. Oramel Stewart and family lose a barn with one horse, four cows, one hog, hay, and furniture from the house saving only partial contents. Centre area man loses his barn and stock. Montpelier fire crews respond to two alarms with wide insurance coverage.
Lightning struck Hert Goodale’s barn near Waterbury causing the blaze to spread to the house. Eight tons of hay burned, and the barn and dwelling were destroyed. Insurance amounted to 3000. Mr. Goodale sustained head and arm injuries while trying to save a chest but is improving. doctors expect his sight to recover.
Andrew Genero, a worker at the Welmtereill Straiton quarry, suffered a severe foot crush this forenoon near 20 predeck. Doctors attended, his 64 years, wife and three children at Webverville are noted.
