East Highgate reports 9 year old Armand Corwell son of Mr and Mrs John Corwell drowned in the Mirsinquei river Saturday afternoon near a rock below the dam after going in to swim His young brother ran home and alerted the family later authorities recovered the body The victim leaves three sisters and three brothers and his parents at home

A severe August thunderstorm struck West Burke. Lightning tore through the chimney of Albert Moulton’s two story house, ripping up the second floor. Guest Edward Ellis suffered burns to his left foot and leg in the parlor as rain largely failed to accompany the storm.
North Sheldon Aug 3 Thunderstorm struck the cow barn of B C Gallup setting straw ablaze. Water nearby helped prevent loss as the barn was saved. Neighbor Mr Gaship notes he has lived on the farm 75 years and this is the first time lightning has hit the place.
Fire at St Johnsbury yesterday leveled the house and barn of George Kittredge causing about 3000 in damage and injuring Kittredge when a horse kicked him as he tried to move it. the adjacent Shaw property, also a barn and house, suffered damage up to 1000. Authorities suspect the blaze started by a sleeper in Kittredge’s yarn.
Ludlow Aug 8 An automobile accident on the road to Tyson three miles from Ludlow occurred Sunday morning. The Ford car owned and driven by Thomas Goodrich of Mymouth carried Mr and Mrs Provo and four Landon children Edith Provo and her daughter were injured, Mrs Provo unconscious for several hours, others bruised. All were brought to Ludlow and treated by Dr W H Page. None sustained broken bones. They are resting comfortably and expected to recover. The Provo party included Mrs Provo and her husband and four children. The accident happened on a sharp bend and the car turned turtle.
Burlington reports Colin F. McDonald, 42, of Graniteville, was thrown from a cart near Main Street and left unconscious. He was brought to Mary Fletcher hospital with a broken collarbone and later showed signs of brain concussion, with his identity confirmed by an insurance policy and letters. His brother in Graniteville has been notified as he remains unresponsive.
St Albans announces a restructuring with M. M. Reynolds dead, Frank Scott named vice president and treasurer, Ardley Ardley appointed comptroller in charge of the railway’s finances and operations. Scott, renowned in banking, succeeds as treasurer of Grand Trunk and Pacific. Ardley brings decades of service, rising from clerk to chief auditing and treasuring roles.
Was well known printer Casper R Kent of North Prospect street Burlington died at Mary Fletcher hospital after an intestinal operation. Born September 10 1864 in Lowell he lived in Burlington 26 years as superintendent of the Free Press Printing company. He married Alle Morrison in St Johnsbury 39 years ago and is survived by his wife two daughters Mae Page and Pooling Kent with a third Rebel died in infancy. He also leaves a sister Mrs Fred Houghton of Kirby and was active in Congregational church Vermont Historical Society and Masonic circles. Funeral arrangements were not made yesterday.
In North Adame Massachusetts a man John Wilders 02 of Motghtom car perished after an embankment collapse near Townal Vermont. The crash killed Miss Rob ert Mutton of New York and Miss Treaghton of Townal while injuring A. Houghton and Dr Robert Hutton. A coroner's inquest followed.
Acquaintances from Willwinetown Northfield Middlesex Barre and Darre Town attend the funeral of William Burrill a former Worcester resident. The obituary notes many local names and the service location in South Marre, with the date set for Thursday.

The funeral of Carto Maffini who died Wednesday at his daughter’s home on Foater Street will be Saturday afternoon from the house to the Catholic cemetery. The cortege will include numerous relatives and friends with a long line of pallbearers and floral tributes.
German troops reportedly reached Wise on the Meuse near Liege as a German ultimatum expires with Belgium’s government rejecting entente terms to facilitate troop movements. Reports from Brussels and London note Belgium refused the offer at seven this morning.

An auto said driven by Joseph Canales of Montpelier collided with a thiefs motorcycle on the bend at Dodge's bridge Sunday. The rider escaped serious injury landing by the highway, conscious briefly. Canales and the car occupants were unscathed. Dr. De EL Andreoni treated the injured rider, noting only a superficial wound to the left leg and a slight elbow abrasion. The motorcycle front wheel was damaged beyond repair and taken to Barre by a team. Authorities report no further information and garages could not identify the cyclist. the Barre agent had no record of an accident report.
