The Republican convention of the proposed state of Oklahoma nominated Frank Frantz for governor Ned Turk for lieutenant governor N Robinett for secretary of state 8 P Held for attorney general and M Stillwell for state treasurer The convention adjourned without completing the ticket Frantz a former Oklahoma Territory governor and Civil War captain with ties to Roosevelt dominated the meeting A platform was being drafted to oppose the constitution advocating local option and avoiding public admission that the constitution is desirable The session saw contention over ticket selection and platform language including a speech from J S McGowan of Snyder
Boston reported the Lipton Cup sailing winner Rose Dorothea skippered by Toe Watson from Duxbury, with Marion Perry of Providence aboard, finishing ahead by about one eighth mile as flames from the Edgewater refinery fire raged nearby. The blaze, destroying the Valve line plant in New Jersey, forced over 800 workers from their jobs.

Rioting and street fighting resumed at daybreak in Seoul as Japanese cavalry demanded surrender of Korean soldiers at Little West Gate barracks. Initial clashes saw Japanese driven off, but Koreans were later forced from quarters by heavy fire from lower gates. Machine guns opened and secured the area as three more Korean garrisons remained starved of supplies and ammunition.

Toulon France Aug 2 During a tire drill on the Krenek training ship a runaway cannon burst its fortification causing the death of three sailors and injuring several others before the weapon was secured.
Aug 2 a tragedy in Wakeffall area as three children of Mr and Mrs Pering 41 Chum tulages die or die with poisoning after berrying in woods near an electric line. Arthur Lester aged about 18 months is dead, while two others aged two years and under are critically ill. Doctors cannot confirm exact poison but suspect poisoning. Authorities suspect berries or fruit. Alexander Heneson the jailer in charge awaits charges as investigation continues.
A head on collision on the Norwich and Westerly Electric railway near North Stonington killed George Lucier of Worcester Massachusetts and injured ten others. The crash followed disregard for orders by Motorman Lacier and Conductor Taylor as the freight and passenger cars met on a curve north of the village. Several injured were taken to Star Hospital and are expected to recover. authorities warn of the dangers of speed on the line.
Manchester August 2 indications show those in the raid at Sunderland July 30 face serious complications. The raid targeted an operation run by the Morriasy brothers under a license secured by Morley Pike of Sunderland. Attorneys argue the proceedings were illegal and jury trial was denied. Over 1400 dollars worth of liquor remains stored and undispensed as defense counsel challenge the legality of the case awaiting county court action in December.
Avie Atchetun, the sculptor associated with St Gaudens, is dying in Cornish New Hampshire. He has spent the year unable to work and to move, with caretakers carrying him daily to the workshops where his past projects lay. Gertrude Chave and Reynolds Rutter were married yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Alonzo Chase in Richmond. The Rev. A Chase performed the ceremony with many relatives from Enfield, Leon, Yonkers, Haverhill, Winooski and Enfield in attendance. A Burlington caterer provided refreshments as the newlyweds planned to reside in Enfield.
A special meeting in Middlebury convened at eight pm by Moderator J T Donaway to decide on funding for permanent road work. The remit commissioner K H Martin was asked to report on completed work and costs. After discussion, voters approved spending 2600 to extend the road program per prior posted plans.
A fire at Taland Pond Avy aS cett's lumber mill on Simon Stine destroyed the lumber mill machinery and dry house containing 1500 dollars of finished product. The origin was a boiler and the fire spread via an elevator. Lumber piles and surrounding area were saved. Total loss about 5000 dollars with 4000 dollars insured.

A Burlington merchant reported a theft of a Central Vermont mileage book on a Wednesday night. The thief swapped the book for money and goods, trimming out coupons before fleeing. Police later learned the book was among three stolen from the Central Vermont station in Sewanee last night.
Oyster Bay Aug. 2 President Roosevelt convenes a private conference with Assistant Attorney General Cooley. Reports say the talks concern possible assignment of Cooley to a major investigation linked to the Trusts policy as the administration expands its attack. Included in callers were Pater A. Jay and Assistant Secretary of State Recon among others.
The battleship Vermont conducts a first sea trial along the Maine coast with test maneuvers and routine operations. Crew reports steady progress as the vessel undertakes standard shake down exercises near Boston and neighboring maritime zones.
Bert G. Taylor aged 47 and his son Harry, 19, drowned after entering a brook near their Augusta home to save the boy who could not swim. Both men, unable to swim, perished as neighbors attempted rescue. the family had moved from Belgrade seven years ago and Mrs. Taylor and three younger children survived.

In city court this morning Grand Juror Davia dismissed the riot related charges against Blair Langevin and others arrested weeks ago after a street clash on Black Street. Victor Hing received a short sentence as a result of the jury disagreement. Tomasi faced obstructing the highway on Merchant Street and a hearing was set. A wagon blocking the sidewalk near Tomasi’s dock became a point of contention with Tomasi denying responsibility and arguing the wagon was moved by a third party.
J C Adams, a California farmer, was attempting to drive a cow from a barn when the animal turned on him and gored his mouth open. Osgood, summoned to help, called the condition critical and described the injuries as severe and life threatening.

The Barre Montpelier base ball club was formally disbanded by directors at a city meeting last evening. Most players will remain together temporarily, with financial support from directors to cover current salaries and a few weeks of pay. The club owes players and others and hopes future arrangements will settle debts while the core team seeks new engagements in nearby towns.
