France and Belgium say Germany has had sufficient time to meet the Versailles Treaty obligations. Great Britain favors the ultimatum, while France and Belgium resist, arguing the terms should be enforced as already set.
British representatives urged an ultimatum to Germany giving seven days from May 1 to comply or refuse Allied reparations demands. France and Belgium oppose, saying Germany already has time. Bailey, 45, born Waterville, served the hospital 27 years and was active in the Masons. He leaves a wife Minnie and his parents.
Mrs. Ella Spencer of Washington aged about 70 was knocked to the pavement by a car driven by Dr. C K Chandler of Montpelier on Milin Street in front of Wenworth store. She suffered a scalp wound but remained stable after treatment at a city hospital.
Six year old Raymond Franklin died after being struck by a truck driven by Joseph Meyers in Burlington. He fell under the wheels while seven children had been playing on the truck near Meyers' garage. the others alit when warned.
The May festival organized by the Maccabees ladies in Howland hall drew a joyful crowd with a food sale in the afternoon and a concert and dance in the evening. Vera Watson presented vocal pieces with Leona Lamb and Doris Lander performing. the dance program featured Miss Lena Levy and others, while the Lander orchestra provided music for the finale.
Lyman J. Budrow, a 53 year old Barre resident and former John Benjamin farm employee in Berlin, died at 2 a.m. after a three week influenza illness. Funeral services will be at St. Monica's church with burial at the Catholic cemetery on Berkley Street. Budrow was born in West Charles and moved to Barre as a child, serving in the granite industry for 30 years, including time with Rioux Granite Co. He was married with five children and is mourned by many Barre residents and relatives.

At Block Island on April 30 the Port packet steamer Mormugao ran onto a rock shelf and flooded its forward hold. About 448 passengers were aboard, with 300 rescued including all women and children and landed at New Belford during the night. Coast guard cutters and naval vessels ferried people in longboats across half a mile of water to safety, while efforts continued to free the vessel and assess damage. Weather remained passable except for rain, aiding the rescue as a high tide was anticipated.
William D. MacAulay was found dead near the barn at his Graniteville Michigan area farm after reporting chest pain to his son at supper. Dr Bailey said death was instantaneous likely from heart trouble. Born March 10, 1848 in Winslow Quebec, he leaves his wife Anne McAuley and seven children, four surviving: Daniel W. John M., Nettie Suitor, and Fred W. Funeral Monday at 2 pm from Graniteville Presbyterian Church, Rev. W. F. Archibald presiding. burial in Whiteon cemetery.
