Dr. Bayliss attended him at the police station and he was later moved to Pitcher’s Hotel to sober up. An police list of his claims and financial losses could not be confirmed.
Washington reports a sub committee drafted a naval appropriation bill to expand the ship quota. The House Naval Committee was to review the measure as part of ongoing budget actions amid efforts to advance readiness.
Brattleboro reports Albert G. Venott, 22, of White River Chair, was stabbed as two assailants sprang from bushes on his morning walk to work. He named one assailant from a recent threat and was sent to a West Brattleboro hospital. Condition serious with abdominal bleeding. Police chase suspects who fled toward New Hampshire.
Berlin report states the American ambassador was summoned by telephone to the imperial chancellor for a one hour ten minute conference with Dr. Von Mothmann Hollweg. No details were provided about the discussion or participants. Dr Von Sinnetwes later held talks with Admiral Von Holendorf on the submarine question, joined by other senior diplomatic officials.

In Washington County Court the case of Frank Phelps v Charles Utley proceeds with eight lawyers, four for each side. Plaintiffs seek $10,000 for alienation of affection of Phelps’s wife. both Cabot residents may see many witnesses. Additional counts were added with allowances for defense on general issue. Attorneys include J Ward Carver, Fred J Laird, William Lord, A D Kimball for the plaintiff and Refus E Brown, W A Dutton, M E Morse, William Neil Lord for the defense. Lord absent due to illness. Two other suits filed: Charles A Milliken and Gustavus A Towle. Milliken is stockholder in Vermont Black Slate Co. and Cutler sues A Hebard for $800.

Groton, April 26. Walter Dein, weakened by a winter grip and despondent over illness, shot himself in the chest early today after partially moving to Bath, New Hampshire. He had sold a farm in Groton last fall and bought a large farm in Bath, leaving his household goods in transit. His wife and two children Mary 15 and Harvey 12, his mother, and a neighbor witnessed the tragedy. Funeral arrangements were not set.
A Vermont lodge reception was held in Burlington at the Masonic temple rooms for Vermont lodge members and visiting grand lodge delegates. Attendees included F D Fillmore of Bennington and F D Willis, supreme warden of New England. A program featured Ruth Buxton, J D and warden of Vermont, Jasper Tousley, Mrs John Piper, Willie, and Miss Buxton with piano. Refreshments followed and guests enjoyed several hours.
Franklin county court heard the case of Jack Press charged with receiving stolen goods tied to a larceny of hides from the Central Vermont Hallway company last November. He pleaded guilty to receive stolen goods and was fined and sentenced to not less than a year and a half to two years at hard labor, with the latter portion suspended.
