Frank H. Butler, second mate of the steamer John P. Wilson, held in Dover on murder charges, proclaims his innocence with tears. He claims he did not know the boy was placed in a bag and asserts he would not harm anyone if not aware of the incident.
Vermont native Perrin Truman Kellogg, a well known New Hampshire lawyer, died at his Whitefield home after a brief illness. Born October 27, 1862 in Worcester, he studied at Union School Montpelier, Dartmouth College class of 1886, then practiced law in Montpelier and Whitefield, where he had a long career since 1890.
Twenty three licemen who guarded the Final Courts Building testified to district attorney Terome that five officers whispered to Charles D. Newton that Tiwn's father might face an appeal. The officers were told to remain quiet until Newton arrived, warning other members of the force.
The Houston jury in the Juan Robens case adjourned on April 24 after hours of deliberation. Proceedings paused to resume in September, while defense and prosecution await new testimony and further evidence.

The board finished collecting and analyzing milk samples from across the state.
Lowell Massachusetts April 24 William J Bryan Jett started toward Vermont at 9 40 tonight then may halt at Hanover New Hampshire to address Durham College students.
The closing session today in Burlington marked the Vermont merchants' association meeting. The organization was perfected with adoption of resolutions and a new constitution.
Talk of the town includes L J Moody and Gale of Stowe as business visitors, F P Rowell and P Frenel of Barton in town, and W H Tones returning to the City hotel as clerk after winter at Canna. J J McCale Murray Malone N P Brown and others arrive. Barre town man Martin Norton pleads guilty to negligence charges and is jailed for twenty days. Chelsea sheriff transfers Wells River prisoners to Montpelier jail to serve sentences for intoxication. River conditions rise with Mount Equinox flow and Langton bridge at risk as Montpelier experiences high water.
In Williamstown an April program at the town hall will feature readings and recitations by members of the Univataaliat Wy Kate Kloten Terrill group. The program includes the phiylet The Magic Sword and The Mayle Sword, with children from Montpelier and Evangeline Butler AIL. Leonard Howard, one of the town's oldest residents and a prominent contractor, tiller, and inventor, died at his home Thursday afternoon at an advanced age. Born in 1816 near Lynn, he moved here many years ago and left four children. He had been blind for twelve years and suffered eye trouble before death.

Word reached late last night of the death of Charles C. Barnes of Barre City at his home in Boston heart disease. He was 73 or 74, had resided in Barre for thirteen years after moving from Massachusetts and leaves a widow, a daughter Mrs. Gertrude Jones of Barre and a son Frank Barnes of Boston. Barnes had worked as a traveling salesman for the East Life company of New York for twenty years. Funeral services will be held in Boston Friday afternoon and trains will take the body to Lowell, Massachusetts for interment.
