A blaze swept through the Fisher Tannery at Bethel today destroying four buildings and leaving 125 workmen unemployed. The volume of damage is estimated at $150,000 as fire crews battled the blaze.
Flames engulfed the EG Fisher company tannery in Bethel early this morning, leaving only the hide-house and office. Loss estimated between 160000 and 200000 with 150000 insurance. 125 workers face unemployment as to rebuild remains uncertain. A three year old girl, Alice Choate, daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Choate of West Barnet, drowned yesterday afternoon in a brook behind her home. While the mother was busy indoors, the child wandered off and was missing for a short time. About seventy five searchers scoured the area and recovered the body two hundred yards downstream, lodged against a fence. Funeral arrangements had not been completed this morning.
Portmouth New Hampshire April 20 shortly after 2 yesterday afternoon Mrs Themes Blaistell living nearby saw a man fall from the Atlantic Shore street railroad trestle over the river Wade her Mente into the Piscataqua river. Charles W Gimy neighbors coroner W E Shapeane aided in recover. Body identified as a man about 60 years old five feet five inches in black suit white shirt with fine hair. A railroad ticket to Salmon Falls and two deep nickl¢ watches found. no money. Suspected to have been under liquor influence.
