Tokio April 9 The Dowager Empress Haruko died at the imperial villa in Namazi today in the presence of Emperor Hirohito and the royal family. An official announcement will be withheld until the body is moved to Tokyo, likely tomorrow.
Stockholm reports King Gustav of Sweden underwent an operation at Sophia Hospital for an extensive stomach ulceration. The procedure was supervised by Professor Johny Wilhelm Berg and involved two tours. Officials announced the operation proceeded without immediate complications.
Militant suffragettes torched Orlands estate near Carrickfergus on Belfast Lough. The old residence burned to the ground as part of their continuing campaign of arson in Ulster.

Augusta Maine April 1 At the Republican state convention the prohibition plank is expected to dominate the agenda as in recent Democratic and Progressive gatherings. State officials are to be nominated at the primaries while the platform is adopted. Delegates favor national prohibition. Congressman Doin A Peters of Maine presides and Congressman Patrick Th Kelley of Michigan speaks on national topics.
Burlington April 10 Slim Braxton, held on bail for relief, was arrested near a small town north of New York City. Bondsman Joseph Agel pursued Braxton through Canada and the United States, finally leading to his recapture after varios escapes. Braxton had earlier looted a Colchester road location near Fanny Allen Hospital, and bail of 1000 was posted before he vanished again.
Miss Anna Stacy of East Berkshire awarded a verdict of £6200 against Charles L. Dolan of Burlington in a breach of promise suit. Stacy formerly lived in Charlotte and claimed Dolan urged marriage four years ago but cooled his ardor, leading to the suit.

New York dated April reports a man named William Wiese of Mount Hope shot himself after an argument with his wife and daughters during a family gathering. The incident occurred at night when he confronted them, then he disappeared and died instantly.
Fourteen year old William LeBent of Martinville was struck by a heavily loaded wagon driven by Frank Parker of Douglas Maine on the Miscoag real near Cranite bridge. Driver Ken learned of the accident only after he had gone half a mile. Dr. Robert Wilcox attributed death to a skull fracture. A special funeral train will leave Montpelier for Pacrce after the Lickin' Biecting at Montpelier Friday.

The couple left for a New York and New England wedding trip after a luncheon attended by Mary Patterson Anne Paul and others. The Leith family is prominent in Barre society.
William Dennis and Elmer Rushlow were sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Chin Kim, a Chinese store keeper, in St. Albans. They were transported to Windsor to begin serving, with police chief Mahoney leading the transfer. At the boy Rushlow's home scenes sparked little emotion, while a dramatic moment arose when a woman attempted to obstruct the box on their way to the station but was told to desist.
A stone fell on an employee named Portaluppi in a meadow, injuring him but not breaking the leg as first feared. He received care at the hospital after local men, including Badger and others, assisted. Doctors expected possible discharge later, while plans for a short visit to Harlington remained.
