Vermont adds 800 acres to Putnam State Forest in Worrester

The Vermont state forestry department has received a deed for 800 acres in Worrester from V Putnam and Ralph Putnam. Land will be exchanged for surplus nursery stock, making the forest the second largest at 1400 acres. Planting plans call for 150000 Norway spruce trees this spring, with a camp and about twenty workers to begin reforestation. The state now owns about 210 acres more.

Marino murder case brief filed for Vermont Supreme Court

The state’s brief in the Giovanni Marino murder appeal was filed in Rutland County. Angelo De Gloio was convicted of second degree murder in Fair Haven, sentenced to life, and appealed. The defense challenges admissibility of three evidentiary items and argues the trial erred in jury instructions on murder in first and second degrees.

Reward Offered for Constitutional Cure Claims

A dubious medical advert promises a $100 reward for proof that a so called constitutional treatment can cure disease. It asserts internal administration to blood and mucous surfaces to destroy the foundation of illness and strengthen the patient. The Hanover Vermont sale advertises 35 fresh horses from 1000 to 1700 pounds ready for farm road or heavy work. It lists single and double harnesses, wagons, robes, blankets, tools, whips, and halters. Commission rates are described, with 5 percent over 50, and 10 percent on other items. lunch room on grounds.
