Newport News Virginia reports a German sea raider offshore and a warning to keep ships in port. A wireless tug will warn vessels in the danger zone while destroyers patrol. Nantucket also notes a raider near New England waters.
Boston April report from Nantucket lightship notes a commerce raider passed the shoals bound west at 7220. Officials describe the vessel as having two masts a long stack slate entered and about 10 000 tons.
Washington April 7 The Navy Department has been officially advised of a suspicious vessel passing the Lightship bound westward. Officials say they expect the Newport naval district commandant to take any steps deemed necessary without awaiting department approval.

Paris April 7 violent cannonading persisted on the French front south of St. Quentin in Dallon and Grams with German reinforcements repulsed after French counter fire. French raiding actions west of Menn reported, and northwest of Rheims progress claimed by grenades toward Suplenott coast. In Argonne a trench was taken and several Germans, including three officers, captured. Air forces destroyed two captive balloons and Italian troops near hill 1960 faced grenade attacks. Monastir area saw enemy artillery activity with five French counterattacks west of the Tsarvena Stena river, Monastir.
London reports British forces renewed their assault on the Arras to St Quentin line and seized the village of Lempire.
