Reports from El Paso April 7 state eighty three wounded and several prisoners were brought to Juarez by boxcars after a federal engagement at Casas Grandes. Couriers from Agua Prieta reported a battle with forty insurgents killed by artillery.
Reports from Mexico City say unofficial negotiations with rebels in Washington may continue though pessimism grows. Francisco Madero Jr shifts revolutionary HQ to San Andres near Chihuahua as government chiefs consider a three man peace commission with Generals Hernandez and Cuellar named to the panel.
Thomas Shumski of Chelsea sues the Boston Bartenders' Mutual & Benevolent Association seeking damages and an injunction to force recognition of a Bartenders' International Union transfer card. He says refusal left him idle and cites overlapping unions and affiliations. In Philadelphia a hospital fire caused near total loss of a building and disarray among patients with damage estimated at 100000 dollars.
New York April 71 The chamber of commerce adopted a 4 page resolution urging arbitration to settle international disputes and solicited help from Frances and England chambers to push new treaties. Andrew Carnegie declined the chair of a proposed United Association of All Organizations arguing the Senate should deliberate on treaty form without prompting.
Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences restores status with a certificate of honorary membership to Rear Admiral Robert E. Peary. The ceremony occurred amid Peary's visit to Cook Town where he spoke at the Academy of Music while Dr. Frederick A. Cook faced recent attack on his polar claims.
The Minnesota Vermont and Tolaho of the Atlantic fleet completed divisional battle practice. They fired on target screens from 15 300 yards, scoring three hits. The fourth division made six hits. Vessels return to home stations today.

In Burlington on April 7 W E Tracy of Johnson opposed motions by B A Hunt while Hunt, jailed on a supreme court certified execution, argued to vacate the execution and seek a writ of habeas corpus. The court denied the motion for vacation. pursuit of further appeal noted as Hunt remained in custody.
A large wood framed structure at Centers Field near the river rail line burned rapidly. Firefighters found the cause unknown as flames consumed the building, its machinery and stock valued around 35 thousand dollars, with partial insurance. George Rowe was among those reporting losses.
The pardon petition for Eugene G Hargood now in Windsor state prison on charges including poisoning stock and perjury was denied by Governor Mead. Deputy Sheriff A A Tastghl of Wallingford attached the property of Charles P Harrin of Rutland for 2000 dollars in a suit by John F Kelsey to recover furniture value from the Banquet house lease dispute. The case centers on unpaid goods and a contested valuation, with arguments over rent and payment.
The Camorriste trial in Viterbo was disrupted as Cir Vitoesi, the accused priest, fainted from self-imposed fasting and mental and physical exhaustion while under questioning. The presiding president ordered a pause and insisted he break his fast.

Calvin Hassett a Civil War veteran died at his home on Trow Hill at 11 oclock this morning from injuries suffered Thursday night. Survived by wife two sisters Mrs Amanda Herkley and Mrs Anne Eastman four sons Clinton John Burt Hayes Hassett and a daughter Mrs Agan Ahern. a bybirth. Born October 5 1845 in Barre he moved to Barre after service and farmed. Funeral Monday Rev E J Thayer to officiate with interment Maplewood Cemetery.
News reports the death of Angus McAuley in Searstown Iowa at 0:30 PM after a months long illness tied to diabetes. A former city resident and Penn High School class of 1808 graduate, he worked in census taking Verkshire and at Smith stock farm before moving to Sealstown last November. Survived by his mother Mrs McAuley and three sisters Mrs Aadlater Mrs Anne McCaskill and Mrs Paul Coote with funeral planned in Scotstown.
Veterans from Ro B Cramtall post No 1 G A R led a funeral procession from the Grand Army hall to the church where Rev Thayer officiated at the service. The mixed quartet sang as nearly twenty veterans attended the ceremony before burial at Topalman beside Mrs Beedo, with many relatives present.
The Central Vermont BR started a special granite train for Washington county manufacturers. The train from Mottpeliir Janetinn carried bent cars from Narre Mootpeller and Rethel Sorth Gold rae, with plans to reach Haroe Saturday.
