British law officers weigh extradition of Germany's former ruler the Kaiser amid moves to punish him for wartime actions. Holland refuses surrender without Germany's consent, complicating legal steps and raising diplomatic tension.
British law officers and French authorities discuss extradition of the former German emperor after his flight to Holland. The London Evening News reports allies intend to demand surrender, while Holland says surrender needs Germany's consent. A Red Flag call for a revolutionary tribunal targets William II and Bethmann Hollweg. Soldiers and workers councils across northern Germany back the new government and urge a national assembly.
President Wilson will depart next week for the peace conference, sailing as Congress convenes. The trip will last up to six weeks including travel, with the American peace delegation to be announced soon and five to seven envoys likely.
Thanksgiving lines praise soldiers and their brave deeds over there. The poem thanks for blessings peace and freedom and laments war but celebrates heroes and a just country. It notes the author’s lineage and Baraboo ties.
Mr and Mrs Charles Junge and daughter Maeta travel to Waukesha for Thanksgiving with Mrs Eugene St Peters, daughter of the Junge family. Lou Sely of Minneapolis loses part of his left hand in a corn shedder, remembered here as Esther McGilvra McGilvra’s daughter.
Leva Vincent, husband of J H Kramer’s sister in law, died in Vallejo California after a car crash. His wife was injured and a son Ralph survived. daughter Mrs C E Moore lived in Seattle. Vincent formerly ran a gun shop in Baraboo and worked at a government shipyard. His parents Elmer and Mrs Vincent resided in Corning California.
On Monday night burglars tried to enter the North Freedom ticket office through the glass near the window catch but fled. The waiting room door was left unlocked and the intruders appeared frightened away before reaching valuables. A new knife found in the morning is linked to a prior theft at Settergren store.
Several new influenza cases emerge in Reedsburg this week among residents who had received vaccination. Theodore Collins, marble worksman assistant, is very ill with a nurse from the city attending. Albert Stowe on East Main street, and Mrs. Glen Kleeber with sister Miss Cornelia Bates, all ill with fevers.
Mr and Mrs August Kropp of La Valle receive word their son John Kropp was killed in action in France. Two other Kropp sons remain in service in southern camps.
O Hara tickets go on sale tomorrow morning for Fiske O Hara in Marry in Haste at the Al Ringling theatre next Monday. The three act romantic farce features Lord Richard Leigh and Lady Evelyn O Connor with new songs by O Hara. Baraboo followers and Mrs E D Wooderson of Wonewoc visited on business.
Mr and Mrs Albert Fuhrman of Reedsburg announce their son Charles Fuhrman died November 8 from battle wounds in France received during the war. The family notes his service and honors the sacrifice.
Sheriff Welk and Officer Neitzel returned from Excelsior convinced two young felons who robbed the Lettergren hardware store and visited William Behr’s home are still at large. A North Freedom informant said the youths showed new guns and knives. they later allegedly feasted on a goose at the Rehr farm. Chief Pelton was alerted to escapees from a state institution. An baraboo-area youth is suspected.
Peru and Chile recalled consular staff from each other’s cities after a dispute, then Peru apologized. C C Ruiz consul general of Chile in New York said the Peruvian message admitted misinformation in reports of outbreaks against Chilean citizens in Iquique and Antofagasta and called the apology wholly satisfactory.
Schools may open next week if influenza remains not more prevalent than now.
The British naval fund during the war stood at 39,766 a total. The trial of Victor Berger is set to begin December 4. London reports the kaiser took a large amount of public money when he fled Germany.
Railroads report a drop in business as war orders are canceled. The half-cent extra Pullman fare will end December 1, reducing earnings by about 40 to 50 million dollars.
Miss Agnes Neuman and Otto F. Schmidt of Caledonia announce a forthcoming marriage between them.

John W Hutchinson a Baraboo resident formerly, was killed by bandit Clyde E Dennis at his Dearborn Street cigar shop. Dennis, captured twenty minutes later after looting $149, confessed to the shooting in a signed statement.
