Night passes with little rest after midnight as we load a steamer with food cots nets and baggage. Mosquitoes flood the wharf and warehouse delays force us to remain on an empty launch all day seeking shelter and sustenance for the journey up the Lebrija river.
Mrs. Mueller on her Durward's Glen farm found multiple dead cats believed poisoned to kill rats. Authorities investigate potential rodent-control method gone wrong.
The funeral of Eli M. Cooper who died in a Milwaukee hospital after a short illness was held at the Presbyterian church in Waunakee. Born April 20 1838 in Onedia County New York he moved to Wisconsin in 1840 and later settled in Baraboo. He married Julia T Bacon on November 10 1861 and served four years in the 3rd Wisconsin Cavalry earning a lieutenant’s rank in the Civil War. He is survived by his wife four sons and a daughter.
Louis Gerou a Chicago Northwestern fireman living in Baraboo learned his brother Aleck Gerou age 21 was shot in the back while returning to camp with a deer twelve miles from Wakefield Michigan near Lake Superior. Companions found him and he was taken to a Wakefield hospital where doctors could not locate the bullet and an X ray was conducted.
Elliott E. Nash of Baraboo becomes assistant general superintendent for the Chicago and North Western, with Chicago headquarters. He will supervise Illinois Michigan and Wisconsin lines, replacing in Baraboo as division superintendent. J. W. Doyle moves to Madison division to fill Nash’s former post, and Martin Boyle becomes Minnesota division superintendent.
Automobile driven by Newton Camcross skidded at about twenty miles an hour and turned turtle at Lodia Ford. He escaped without serious injury and the car was hauled to a garage.
George Phipps once ran a corner drug store in Baraboo. In Glenwood, Minnesota a locomotive headlight blinded him, his foot slid toward the tracks, and a train struck him, breaking his neck and causing instant death. He traveled for a living and was on his last trip. Survived by wife and two daughters, the family lives at 1920 Marshall Avenue, St. Paul.
George Graves returns from Monmouth Illinois noting wholesale potato prices at 85 cents and retail at a dollar per bushel. He explains a deceptive 2 1/2 bushel sack splits into three baskets gaining a half bushel, prohibited by law. Graves prefers Wisconsin goods and remarks price differences between states and local kerosene costs.
William Hewitt died at his Reedsburg home Tuesday evening at 4 o'clock after a year long battle with Brights disease. He leaves a wife four sons and a daughter. Father-in-law Charles Huntington and sister-in-law Mrs Emma Huntington reside in the city. Funeral services were held at 1 30 today with interment in Butterfield cemetery.
The Websters Prairie Farmers' club met at the grange hall with eighty five members present. The program featured songs readings by Daniel Graves and Mrs. Max Springer, a teacher led dialogue by Miss Hannon, an address by Mr. Towle of the creamery, a recitation by Theodore Fry, and a closing "America" song. An oyster supper will be served Saturday with expected large attendance.
The Sauk county acre corn contest led by Superintendent G. W. Davies awarded top prizes to Walter Klipstein of Loganville for 9124 pounds, Ernest Wichern of Baraboo for 9085 pounds, and Arlow Giles of White Mound for 8652 pounds.

The state tax commission has ruled Antigo may buy the water plant for 128800. The plant is owned by W G Maxcy who once owned the Baraboo plant.
Montross Pelton and Mary Nye marked their silver wedding anniversary near Reedsburg with a gathering of over 100 relatives and friends. A program featured local figures and mentions from Baraboo and Sumner Washington, with letters from San Diego and Reedsburg.
Mrs. J. D. Martin and Mrs. Joan Edwards hosted Lyons Ladies Social Circle for officer elections. New officers: President Mrs. W. Kimball, vice president Mrs. J. D. Martin, secretary Mrs. Nina Harris, assistant secretary Mrs. Clara Howard, treasurer Mrs. Mary Odell. A $15 church work bill was approved. Mrs. Frank Cleveland to host December 4 gathering. Supper served after business session.
J. R. Palmer, president of the Wisconsin State Horticultural Society, reports Sauk county shipped a record apple total. Baraboo 64 car loads and 1 000 barrels, North Freedom 20 car loads, Ableman 11, Reedsburg 69 car loads and 250 barrels, plus Portage one car load and Kilbourn six. Estimated minimum 28 610 barrels for the season surpasses Richland county, which trails far behind.
Miss Cora Scheweppe and John Sprecher of Black Hawk were married at the bride’s parents home near Spring Green with Rev. Happe officiating. The ceremony had no attendants, only close relatives present, and the couple will live on the old Sprecher homestead with many well wishes for a prosperous life.
At a Sauk County meeting the Fortnightly Literary club debated using public schools as social centers. Professor E J Ward advocated open school use for political meetings polling places and civic services while Superintendent A C Kingsford warned of failures elsewhere and urged caution ensuring education remains primary. A piano duet and vocal solo closed the session.
