Reedsburg closed the city for three hours to canvass for the Y M C A fund and raised 1999.09 dollars, surpassing the 1700 dollar quota. R P Perry chaired the committee and organized the effort with broad participation and cheerful contributions.
At the Baraboo Valley Poultry association meeting in the county clerk's office plans were set for the annual show in the first week of January. The event opens January 4 and runs four days with catalogue changes and hopes for a large turnout from farmers amateurs and youths despite venue uncertainty.
A Baraboo report says Miles A Bell, a bugler from Baraboo in Co. I, will be shot for alleged offenses after fleeing during transfer to mess quarters. The claim came via a private letter and has not been confirmed.
A second mobilization order for those not in the first increment will be issued within one to two weeks at latest. The delay stems from unfinished camps and the need for a full supply of overcoats before issuance.
Mrs John P Joachim and Mrs Myron C West of Madison have been summoned by their husbands Colonel Joachim and Captain West to come to Waco. They expect departure soon for France for observation work and to return to train troops locally.
Sauk County supervisors re elected R B Griggs William Halbersleben and R F Mercer to the highway committee. They approve loyalty resolutions send copies to state and national leaders and discuss a food agent, ventilation, and tract abstracts. Budget moves include road funds and a food agent allotment of 1200.
An arriving naturalized American in Berne describes German discontent and looming postwar issues. He cites mutinies being suppressed, widespread anti American sentiment, and hopes for peace. He notes potential confiscation of property, war loan repudiation, and immigration bans, with Germans seeking escape to America, New Zealand, or Australia.
The Sauk County Council of Defense report was presented and an appropriation of 1100 dollars approved. The board suspended rules to cast ballots for James A. Stone and F. A. Cooper to succeed themselves on the training school board for a three year term.

A Wellington banquet honored county good roads boosters with attendees from Reedsburg Grier Weidman Erwin Larsden Leo Sussner Prairie du Lac William Waterbury Floyd Schoephoerster La Valle Robert Pearson Paul Sussner Baraboo Carl Hirschinger Harry Getchman Gerald Wichern Merrimack Walter Herr and county officials. Carl Hirschinger spoke on The Care of Good Roads, with remarks by W A Babcock and County Road Supervisor John Gunnison. County leaders and highway committee members attended, praising a very successful year.
Richland county mud turtles known as snapping turtles are being caught and shipped to eastern markets. A wagon load weighing nearly half a ton was sent by express to Philadelphia dealers. Turtles fetch about twelve cents per pound live weight according to the Richland Center Observer.
Judge Stevens of the circuit court visited his Madison courthouse office for the first time in about three months. He has been homebound with inflammatory rheumatism and expects to resume his bench duties next week.
The second Wisconsin Baby Beef show drew 15 counties to the stock pavilion in Wisconsin. Walter Hartman of Lodi won senior division with an Angus steer. Josephine Herr, also of Lodi, finished second with a Shorthorn. Ted Scott of Bagley won junior division with a Hereford steer. The event featured many prize winners from Baraboo, Mineral Point, Richland Center, and other towns, followed by a banquet and other program highlights.
War time emphasis shifts to agriculture with 33 meetings set and more to come. Hog raising will be a principal topic at all sessions as farmers' institutes are conducted throughout the state this winter.
Mr and Mrs Christian Henry Beyler of Madison celebrate sixty years of marriage. Mr Beyler is the oldest attache of the Wisconsin supreme court and served as court crier for forty years.
Portage curlers anticipate a strong start once cold conditions permit play at the curling rink. They expect full blast competition as soon as weather allows.
At a Tuesday dinner meeting Wausau business men subscribed 14000 for the Y M C A war recreation work. The amount represents half of the county's full quota.
