Mrs Herman Weinke died at Baraboo hospital following a three year illness caused by dropsy with liver heart and kidney disease. The house and lot bought by George McFarland from Mrs. A S Hawley traces back to the Peck family after the land moved from government ownership. Records show United States deed to Rosaline Peck on February 16, 1847, with a 1860 recording, then deeded to Victoria Peck Wheeler in 1889 and recently to McFarland. Few county properties remain in one family this long.

Largest Ginseng Garden in the County at Spring Green
Schwartz Brothers of Spring Green cultivate over three acres of ginseng and hold one of the region’s largest gardens in Wisconsin. They harvested 460 quarts of seed and dug 250 pounds of dry roots valued around seven dollars per pound, planning another year to improve grade. Roots go to China for medicinal use.
