Generous Bequest of W. W. Warner Urges Public Good

The late W. W. Warner of Madison left about 98,200 for public works. Plans include a park on Conklin's site, a sea-wall on Lake Monona, completion of Yahara Waterway, and gifts to Madison General Hospital, Attic Angela, Dane County Humane Society, and Sauk County Historical Society.

Warner Park proposal sparks debate over Baraboo funds

The Baraboo will allocates 75 000 to a cement boulevard from Baraboo high bridge to Devils Lake with Baraboo city receiving 40 000 if Madison does not fund Warner park land. A 25 000 city contribution is required plus 5 000 for bicycle paths and trees. Executor F W Suhr oversees a 250 000 estate aging.

Gifts to Sauk County Historical Society Add Richer Archives

The Sauk County Historical Society received multiple donations from local and distant contributors. Sir Gilbert Parker sent two volumes, while Mrs. H N Jennings and Rev. R T McCutchen donated a Moro Mission newspaper in the Philippines. The United States National Museum and Chicago Historical Society provided catalogs and annual reports. Other gifts include rare land deeds, a Confederate railroad pass, and poems by N V Chandler highlighting local lineage.

Old Stump in Richland Center Explodes

In Richland Center a stump at John Kirkpatrick’s yard blew up while workers cleaned the yard. A dynamite charge believed buried years ago caused a loud explosion that dug a three foot hole. No one was nearby at the time.

Kilbourn Hopes For Factory

W J Foran of Aberdeen South Dakota visited Kilbourn to discuss a car indicator novel to the Marshall machine company Kilbourn. Marshall Barden a locomotive engineer and stockholder from Portage led the venture with fine plant equipment and strong promise for permanent Kilbourn operations.

Real estate transfer closes deal east of Reedsburg

Jay B. Cook arranged through Cook & Williams a sale of the John Peglow eighty acre farm east of Reedsburg to John Bradley of Pardeeville. Bradley’s livery barn was taken in as part of the exchange, closing the transaction.

Parcel Shower for Miss Lena Seils at Parsonage

Miss Lena Seils, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Seils of Fairfield, was honored with a parcel shower at Rev. W. F. Beyer and wife’s home. About twenty friends attended a hidden treasure game revealing linen, china and pictures for her new home, followed by refreshments.

Hotel Manager Charles DuBois Dies in Reedsburg

Charles DuBois died at his Reedsburg home Wednesday night from stomach trouble. He leaves a wife and two children. For the past year he managed the Reineke House hotel. A former North Freedom resident, he and his family had lived in Reedsburg for several years. Funeral planned for Sunday afternoon unless arrangements change.

Baraboo mfrs donate woolen suitings for France relief

The McFetridge brothers of Baraboo sent 580 yards of woolen suiting to Madison for the American Girls Aid in France relief. Mrs J M Olin heads Madison’s committee, packing the Baraboo gift with others for shipment to New York and Paris.

Mrs W H Reeves Dead. Remains Brought To Reedsburg For Burial

Mrs W H Reeves aged 88 died at her daughter Emma’s home in West Allis after three years of invalidism. She moved from Sandusky to West Allis in 1891 and is survived by six children in Louisiana, Kansas, Washington, California, Wisconsin, and West Allis.

Federal Mines Scientist Cuts Gasoline Cost by Experiment

Dr Walter F. Rittman of the Federal Bureau of Mines in Pittsburgh developed a process to add up to 200 percent to gasoline from petroleum. His station cost $250,000. Representative Randall of California proposes government seizure of oil lands by condemnation to lower petroleum prices and products.
