Wisconsin Farmers Gather to Endorse New Political Ticket

About 500 farmers in Madison formed a new Wisconsin organization to push a ticket led by Roy A. Wilcox for governor and E F Dithmar for lieutenant governor. The assembly favored Merlin Hull for secretary of state and Philipp Lehner for attorney general, with Tittemore named by the earlier meeting, while Socialists opposed the conference nominees.

Farce at Sumpter church draws big crowd

Thursday evening eight youths staged a three act play titled Tompkins Hired Man at the Sumpter church. A tale of wealth loss, foster care, and a hidden reunion ended in family harmony. Proceeds totaling about forty eight dollars were donated to the Sumpter Red Cross chapter.

Total solar eclipse sighting expected June 8 in Baraboo region

Ringling Show Bonds Sell Well in Chicago

Liberty bonds move briskly at the Ringling circus in Chicago with workers selling thousands of dollars to spectators. Miss Nina Curtiss and Miss Kathryn Arney led sales in the dressing rooms while performers opened their wallets. Saturday and Sunday drew record crowds in the Coliseum, the managers said. John O. Markesan of Madison pleaded guilty in Columbia County circuit court to a Portage hotel arrest and received a one year term at Waupun state prison. Mrs. Florence Beach remains jailed with pending preliminaries next week, amid a long-running, troubled affair beginning in Grey Eagle in 1916.

New Trunk Line Map Issued By State Highway Commission

Binding twine may be scarce this year

S A McCoy of North Freedom visited Baraboo with a note on binding twine supply. Prices set to 26 28 and 30 cents per pound with retailer margin about 2 percent. Harvests start in the south and move north, stock dwindling by Wisconsin. Farmers urged to order early due to limited supply and slow freight. A stitch in time may be an excellent thing at this time.

Five Hundred Badger Boys Called for Michigan Studies

Five hundred Badger young men of draft age will be called on May 16 to take mechanical studies at the agricultural school in Michigan. A grammar school education suffices and volunteers will be accepted. County Clerk F A Cooper has received instructions.

New Signs On All Trunk Lines Statewide Markers Planned

The plan calls for marking every mile of 5000 miles of trunk lines by July 1 with triangle signs four feet above ground at one mile intervals and at crossroads county lines and schoolhouses. Signs will show State Trunk Highway number Wis county names patrol district numbers and patrolmen names for accountability.

Power Company Loses In Suit At Madison

Wisconsin River Power Company ordered to pay damages for lands in Columbia county damaged by the Prairie du Lac dam. The case, Nos 51 and 52, involved condemnation of lands and a claim of set back water making marsh land too wet to work. Heirs of William L. Wells sought appraisers of damages. the company contested payment for land not actually flooded. The supreme court affirmed the condemnation ruling.

Woman buried five husbands after six marriages in fame of Madison

Janet Haskins once of Madison Wisconsin died near Los Angeles after six marriages five husbands are buried. Her spouses included Jackson David Melvin David Elmon Dorsey Daniel Wesley Austin and Every Haskins with the surviving husband described as very wealthy. She wed first in 1861 at Freeport and listed as Methodist minister’s wife during later years.
