Plant City berry grower wins top prizes at fair

E E Moyse, brother of William Moyse of Baraboo, earned both first prizes for strawberries at the Tampa State Fair. His fresh picked exhibits from the Montana Farm near Plant City impressed judges and visitors. Sarasota took second prize while Moyse shipped sixty four quarts of Missionary berries to Tallahassee for state agent demonstrations.

Local Pioneer Edward Buelow Dies at 86 in Reedsburg

Mr and Mrs E L Reynolds attended the funeral for Edward Buelow in Reedsburg. The Civil War veteran died after a lingering illness at age 86. He established himself among early Reedsburg settlers and is survived by four sons George Waupun Thomas Frank and Will and two daughters Mrs Frank Davenougue and Mrs Tessie Everett.

Funeral of John Graham at Portage

Funeral services for John Graham a Portage druggist and ex mayor were held Wednesday under Masonic auspices. Born Edinburgh Scotland April 14 1838 he was among Wisconsin oldest druggists and ran a Portage store for 63 years. City businesses closed for the ceremony.

Wondertone Phonograph Secures Agency by J E Von Wald

J E Von Wald has secured the agency for the Wondertone phonograph. The all metal talking machine accepts Columbia or Victor records, sells for 12 50, and is on exhibition at the Von Wald jewelry store.

Death of Mrs McMahon’s mother prompts trip to Belvidere

Mrs. Thomas McMahon and Miss Anna McMahon journeyed to Belvidere after learning of Mrs. McMahon’s mother’s passing. An engineer was sent to Madison to relieve Mr. McMahon who accompanied them.

Aged Veteran John Weirich Remembered at Funeral

The funeral for John Weirich was held at 1:30 PM at his home with Rev. E P Hall officiating. G A R members led the service with P P Palmer as commander and James Dibble as chaplain. Burial followed at Yan Kee Street Cemetery in Sumpter with Rev Phillip Snyder directing. Relatives from Augusta Prairie du Lac Sumpter Baraboo attended, including Michael Weirich and Mrs Herrell, with most of the Weirich children present except Mrs Fred Steuber.

Intended Surprise Not a Surprise at Mrs Kramer Home

A pleasant evening at Mrs. J. Kramer’s home saw twenty eight family friends gather to surprise Mrs Kramer and her daughter Carrie. Ice cream delivery sparked suspicion before guests arrived and a lively evening of games and contests followed with ice cream and wafers served.

William W. Stackhouse underwent an operation at a Milwaukee hospital for appendicitis last night. Mrs. Stackhouse received notice he was ill during a run and was taken to the hospital. she left on the afternoon train. Reports this morning say his condition is quite encouraging.

Sells Eight Fine Porkers

J. C. Weirich sold five dressed hogs to L. H. Horstman at 12 cents a pound for $118.08. Three other hogs went to Weirich Brothers market. The hogs are praised as the finest seen in Baraboo this season, aided by 1914 corn noted for fattening porkers.

Park View club meets at Sherman home for St Patrick themed program

Over forty members of the Park View club gathered at the N. F. Sherman home for their semi monthly meeting. The program included Irish quotations, humorous stories, songs Long Long Ago violin accompaniment, papers on contesting associations and farm life for girls, recitations, a poem, and a social with refreshments.

Camp for Farm Youth At State Fair

The state fair education program will sponsor youth camps on the grounds with the state Y M C A guiding a boys camp and the Milwaukee Y W C A running a girls camp. Eligible are farm exhibitors and department contest participants. management and staffing details are set with Mr Jones as business manager and Mr Babcock directing the boys camp for an estimated 300 to 600 youths. Meals priced at 40 to 50 cents daily during fair week. Expectation of Sauk County turnout.

Prairie du Lac Couple Celebrate Dual Surprise Anniversary

John Gasser and his wife planned a private fifteenth wedding anniversary at Prairie du Lac. About 75 neighbors secretly arranged a separate surprise on March 18, creating a memorable evening with ice cream cake and fruit as gifts of cut glass china and linen were exchanged.

Peddler Cohen Injured in Ford Collision Near Church

B Cohen, a peddler merchant, recently bought Mrs F Wilcox's Ford auto and, while driving about twenty miles an hour, lost control and crashed head on into a tree in front of Jennie Lamont's house near the Methodist church. Cohen shielded his young son, suffering severe internal injuries. the car was badly damaged.

Reedsburg Lady in Runaway Escapes Injury

Mrs. Mac Willard of Reedsburg escaped a runaway Wednesday morning after the buggy horses bolted when she reached for a basket. She held the team on the road until a corner at Pine and Vine streets caused a rollover. harness damaged but no serious harm. Mr. Willard and Mr. McHeary helped control the situation.

Unusual Will Plan Refused by Two La Crosse Priests

Mrs. Helen Brieske's will leaves about 1500 dollars with a clause paying two pastors 50 dollars each to say Mass fifty times yearly for her soul. Rev. Joseph Reister and Rev. H F Flock refused to become beneficiaries, noting they will not carry out the plan. The funds revert to Brieske's heirs.

Historical Society Receives Wide Range of Local Artifacts

Sauk County Historical Society received items including an ox shoe from Ed Kinnamon of LaValle and an engrossed copy of a joint resolution on J Stephens Tripp’s death signed by state leaders. Thieves Steam Twelve Rob Chickens From Taro Ware Home

Thieves stole eleven chickens from the home of DPD. Joseph Johnson on Lynn Avenue on Thursday night. Only three birds remained and Johnson said the loss nearly emptied the flock and would have scarcely mattered if the thieves had taken all.

Bazaar Draws Crowds at Black Hawk Hall

A wide local turnout attended the ladies aid bazaar at Black Hawk hall Wednesday afternoon and evening. The event was declared a success as residents enjoyed a communal fundraiser. Honored Soldier Dies at Sauk City

Frederick Zoellner aged 82 died at his Sauk City home. A member of Company H, Fourth Wisconsin regiment, he leaves a wife and ten children: Carl, William and Otto of Groton SD. Mrs. Edward Kahn. Large 260 Acre Curry Farm Sold to Three Parties

The John Curry farm two miles north of town, totaling 260 acres, was sold today to three parties and will be divided. Carl Lamberton bought the main part of 2140 acres, John George acquired 30 acres to join his land, and Edward Waddell bought 90 acres to extend his holdings. The consideration was reported as 13000 dollars.

Injury in Wood Cutting Heads for Lenter Landon

Lenter Howard Landon injured his head when a tree struck him while cutting timber. He is reported to be recovering nicely. Dist.
