Baraboo Co G Captures Madison District Title in Basketball

The Co G Baraboo quintet overcame an eight point second half deficit against Sun Prairie to win 33 28 at the Madison Y M C A and earn a spot in the state tournament in Milwaukee March 29 30. Noble Sprecher led with 19 field goals while John Sprecher added seven as Baraboo claimed the district crown and a silver cup from the Wisconsin State Journal.

Five youths tied to stolen Ford car theft caught

H K Dillenbeck reported his Ford stolen after attending the Ringling theatre Friday. Night Patrolman Capener aided by Harry Fienberg and William Carlisch tracked the vehicle through snow to Portage and a dance hall. A local youth, Ire Hoag, admitted taking the car to attend the Portage dance and is held for a hearing in the county jail. The car suffered minor damage from snow and a loose windshield light.

Reedsburg Man Hangs Self After Chicago Murder

Fred Nadler formerly of Reedsburg killed Solomon Scharfer during a 1920s Chicago car crime. Nadler, held in a Warren Ave station cell, hanged himself using an improvised rope after a confession attempt and years of moonshine influence. Nadler, born 1896, served in World War I with Baraboo Reedsburg unit. his remains to be brought to Chicago.

Walter Volz Shoots Self In Tragic Incident

Walter Volz of Narrow Prairie shot himself in the head and was taken to Reedsburg hospital. He was found despondent Sunday evening after a failed attempt. his condition is listed as conscious with partial paralysis and an retained bullet visible on X ray. He is the son of Mr and Mrs August Volz who rushed to the hospital. Doctors say he is believed to live.

Reedsburg Foreman Herman Brown Found Hanged

Herman Brown a longtime Reedsburg railroad section foreman hanged himself Friday afternoon in his rear woodshed. His son Alfred found the body after returning from work. Brown had been dead several hours. He leaves a widow and five children. family offered no motive beyond despondency. Mrs. H A Bauer of Kilbourn was a recent shopper in the city.

Larger Surveyors Camp at Devils Lake Planned for Summer

The University of Wisconsin College of Engineering will lengthen the Devils Lake surveying camp from four to six weeks next summer. It will add a railway field course and a highway surveying and inspection course under state highway commission representation. Courses in topographic surveying by a U. S. Geological Survey topographer will be offered. Over 60 students and 6 instructors attended last year. 10 hours daily of field work will continue with tents and a hired cook. The camp opens June 26 under Prof. R. S. Owen.

Lewiston Boy Held Up in Portage Robbery

Portage near daylight saw Cash Corning of Lewiston held at revolver point by a man about 35, small mustache, blue coat, who relieved him of 7.50 dollars Tuesday evening around 7 30. Corning described the robber as uncoated besides the blue coat.

HRE DESTROYS FAIRFIELD HOME

A Wednesday fire destroyed Walter Green's Fairfield residence, likely caused by a defective flue. The lower floor yielded some belongings while upper-floor bedding and furniture were lost. Insurance listed 750 on the building and 450 on contents through Baraboo Farmers Mutual. Local residents assisted, moving the family to the Porter house, near the Wrightmeyer farm.

District Meeting of Odd Fellows in Kilbourn

The district meeting of Odd Fellows will be held in Kilbourn on March 29. The district includes Portage Mauston and other towns in adjoining counties.

State offered 65 acre park near Spring Green Iowa

The state may acquire a 65 acre park near Spring Green in Sauk county offered by Mrs. Jenkin Lloyd Jones of Chicago. The site on a wooded hill features an old shot tower used by early settlers and lies across the river from Spring Green near Helena with river trade history from 1830 to 1860. The conservation commission plans to accept the gift and place the park along state trunk highway No 11, one mile from Spring Green.

Paroled George Klein gets two years for child abandonment

George Klein, found guilty by jury of abandoning his children, was sentenced to two years at Waupun with one day per year in solitary confinement. Sentence was withheld on good behavior and he was paroled but must pay court costs. Other Wisconsin cases noted include non support and divorce actions.

Baraboo Masons Injured When Car Turns Over

A Baraboo Masonic lodge party traveling to Delton was in an auto accident near the Marshall farm when a tire blowout caused the car to flip. None seriously hurt. Rollin Sansum the driver suffered shoulder ligament injuries. others bruised. Roy Judson and Maurice Deppe helped transport the injured back to Baraboo.

Wisconsin Legislature Called in Special Session

Gov Blaine summoned the Wisconsin legislature to meet in Madison on March 22 at 10 am to repeal the secrecy clause of the state income tax law restore provisions allowing examinations of returns six years after filing and indefinitely if fraud is found. Disclosures by the tax commission on unreported income prompted the action. the session is expected to last one day.

Fishing Taboo On Lake Wisconsin Limited From Dec to June

Lake Wisconsin bans all game fishing from December 1 to June 1 per Game Warden F A Dockhayn. The order covers sunfish and other non listed species under Chapter 29.01 law 1921. Warden cites inquiries about winter fishing practices.
