War scenes from Europe described by B J Johnson

B J Johnson, five years in France, spoke at the Sauk County Historical Society meeting in Baraboo detailing scenes from Paris to Verdun. Lower Narrows Farmers Club Meeting Highlights

A crowded turnout at the Lower Narrows school house featured a program with songs by Carl Squires Harold Bair and others, recitations by Mrs. B Trussell Earl Squires and Roy Schigner, a pantomime by Mounds club, and a debate on whether Being prepared for war will preserve peace with sides led by Chas E Squires Tom Williams Theo Squires and D E Williams. The next meeting is scheduled for March 30.

Judge O Neill Forges Links Between Law and Society

Judge James O Neill of Neillsville spoke at the Fortnightly Literary club on the value of juries and the bar in shaping society. He praised honest lawyers, discussed judicial conciliation, and urged support for an international court after the European conflict. Twentieth Century Club Holds March Meeting in Library

The March session of the Twentieth Century Club met in their room with Mrs. Astle reading the drama Tragedy of Nan by Masefield. Mrs. Train opened the discussion while Mrs. Runge reported on Baby Week and the baby column will continue. A Congress member J Charles Linthicum read a dairy inspection resolution urging tighter supervision citing a Bureau of Animal Industry report that most creameries are unsanitary and milk not pasteurized.

Watkins-Wilson Wedding in Lyons Ceremony

Thursday at 2 PM Roy C Watkins and Miss Viola Willson united in marriage at the home of Ed Watkins in Lyons with about fifty guests. Pastor FE O Coontz officiated the ring ceremony as Lillian Watkins acted as flower girl. The couple will reside in Madison at 330 West Doty Street after refreshments following the ceremony. Watkins works for the Gisholt Company.

Wild Oats Threaten North Dakota Crops

James House writes from Glover North Dakota describing a severe winter with blizzards and impassable roads. He notes farmers raised a large crop of small grain last season while corn failed but not acutely, since it is mainly a feed crop. Baraboo Commercial Club Holds March 18 1916 Meeting

The Baraboo Commercial Association Board of Directors met March 18 1916 at 8 o'clock with most directors present. Reports covered freight depot improvements, road to Devil's Lake, prize fund for county road work, and potential ad campaigns. Committees were tasked with evaluating a Chicago post office site appropriation and gasoline tax opposition, plus plans for a banquet and a new railroad to Portage.
