Vivian Muir Smith reports from Warsaw as German occupation ends. She notes 25 to 30 women work at a Red Cross hospital with little supplies, vows aid including food and cocoa for kindergarten children, and describes local social figures like Mme Bishping. The United States transport Nanze Mond arrived in New York from Antwerp with 210 American servicemen who died abroad.

Portage residents David McFarland and James Thompson escaped serious injury when their Chevrolet plunged into a stream near Congress Hall. The Reedsburg High School held its commencement exercises on Friday evening. English graduates include Robert Clement, Joe Connors, Harry Huntley, Harold Meyer, Arthur Thomas, Leonard Williams, Carl Zimmerman, Roy Davis, Vera Young, and Joseph Thadlee. Commercial course graduates span William Miles to Helen Zimmerman. Manual Training graduates include John Connors and Oliver Winchester. Domestic Science graduates list Madeline Meyer, Camilla Lee, Adeline Foss, Mary McCluskey, Ida Meyer, Helen Meyer, Juanita Miller, Anne Murphy, Laverne Oehlers, and Hyacinth Ost.
Elmer C Keitel of Merrimack with A J Poole of the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey toured local rattler dens. They captured 26 snakes alive using tongs while scrambling over rocky dens in tennis slippers. Keitel maintains a farm collection of about 80 live rattlers.
The House passed a Volstead repeal measure 323 to 3 in Washington. It would revoke about 60 war laws except food control, trading with the enemy, and Liberty bonds acts, sending the bill to the Senate for action before adjournment. Democrats and Republicans supported the move, with Wilson expected to approve.
Dr James Jackson Sr of Madison has returned home after a six weeks stay at the general hospital where he underwent several operations for internal ailments. He is now reported feeling much improved.
Earl Wretland aged seven fell from a foot bridge into the Baraboo river near Ringling Brothers winter quarters. Neighbors, physicians and a pulmator could not revive him after he was recovered from the water. He leaves two sisters Clara and Helen and one brother Arthur, with his parents Mr and Mrs Arthur Wretland.
A letter to relatives in Reedsburg says Pvt. H. E. Bates now resides in Honolulu Hawaii. Bates reports he enjoys his Hawaii trip and did not get seasick while working in the balloon service. He mentions visiting the palace of former kings during his stay.
The Delaware legislature adjourned without favoring the suffrage issue. A test revealed opposition to woman suffrage within the state legislature and the public.
Walter O. Pietzsch of Baraboo announces candidacy for department commander of the Wisconsin G A R. Encampment scheduled June 14 to 16 in Baraboo. Pietzsch, veteran of the 19th Wisconsin, has held G A R posts and staff roles in state and national commands.
The Merrimack commencement program featured honors for Reinhard Hein and Alice Pigg with multiple class roles. diplomas conferred by Prof. KE A Weinke. Following the exercises, numerous local and out of state relatives visited and attended Decoration Day events and celebratory gatherings at homes across Baraboo Madison and surrounding towns.
