Baraboo figures Hon John M True longtime citizen and state leader passes after weeks of illness at his son Ernest B True in Galesburg Illinois He was born October 9 1838 in Moultonboro New Hampshire and moved to Wisconsin in 1866 where he taught and farmed He held many offices including county supervisor state assembly and senate roles and aided the University of Wisconsin and state agricultural groups His sons Dr Rodney H True Gordon H True and Ernest B True survive with several grandchildren and relatives
An reader from Knightson irrigation district in Contra Costa County writes about California climate, rainfall around 12 inches, warm summers with cooling bay breezes, and diverse weather from Sierra snows to Imperial Valley lows. He notes bond votes for county highways, rising land values, and local agriculture thriving with almond buds and garden produce.

On Feb. 15 Senator George Staudenmayer of Portage introduced two bills in the state Senate. One bill allows county treasurers to accept in advance income and surtaxes, and the other authorizes the Conservation Commission to sell wood, timber, stone found in state parks. Proceeds would be used exclusively to buy additional park land.
The Editor argues Wisconsin does not need irrigation ditches to grow crops with over thirty inches of annual rainfall. He notes rail freight and crop diversity make Badgerdam prosperous. Sank County avoids bonds for roads, instead funding about $300000 this year as work progresses.
Harry W North died early Saturday morning after apoplexy struck Monday evening. He was an engineer for the Chicago & Northwestern, retired years ago after long service. Born in Onalaska Wisconsin in 1858 he married Ida Ringling in 1902 and had three children John Salome and Harry. Survived by two brothers J E North New Orleans and S P North Raceland Louisiana and four sisters S D Thayer Ft Dodge O T Dunn Poline Oklahoma Freeman Capener Baraboo and J R Boyd Hattiesburg Mississippi. He had been in ill health for seven years.
Phillip M Franzen is granted a divorce from Lillian D Franzen by Judge A C Hoppman in the Madison Superior Court. The article notes a sensational elopement with Pierre Paul Auther nicknamed Love bandit and a Spanish grandee, plus Franzen swore out a warrant claiming a man forced his wife to leave and used a revolver to extract a $100 check.

Joseph Alsheimer, alias Tom Burna, a Madison man who escaped Dane county jail on August 25 1917 during a highway robbery case, was shot and killed February 8 in a Salt Lake City hotel by Chief Joseph Burbridge. Detectives of American Express identified him from a photo after suspect had used blank travelers checks and money orders in Fellows California January 10.
The Twentieth Century club met at Mrs. W. H. Hatch's home with ten members. They cited high milk prices from Chicago to Baraboo and planned to petition their assemblyman against Bill 99A which would end county nurse services. Mrs. E. H. Groth led a lesson on Political Parties and Miss Troy field spoke on Y W C A activities.
