Charles Wild, longtime Beloit resident now in Janesville, purchased Hotel Hilton Beloit from Anna McNeil. McNeil Hotel Co. had managed the property. O H Papke remains until Lieut Robert Dailey returns from France to take over. The Wild family plans to move to Beloit with Dailey family joining later.

Baraboo Welcomes First Wounded WWI Soldier From Racine
Arthur G. Potterville, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Potterville, recently returned from France and West Baden Indiana, visited Baraboo after discharge. He was wounded in the left arm by shrapnel on August 7 after serving with the 4th Engineers and Vesle bridge duty. He traveled home aboard the Martha Washington and Princess Matelke, arriving Newport News November 22 and staying briefly at Camp Stewart before West Baden.

Portage Removes Jewelry Theft Suspect from Stotzer Home
Portage police recovered most of the jewelry stolen from Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Stotzer of Baraboo after a housemaid, Ada Grossman et al, vanished with valuables value $500. The suspect Jessie Bird alias Neva Berg and Jessie Van Beek was taken into custody in La Valle after being tracked through Lyons and Baraboo. The case involves regaining items including platinum pins and a diamond pendant and highlights the maid’s alleged instability.

Mrs T L Williams an longtime Caledonia resident died in Racine at about 85. She formerly lived on the farm now owned by Charles Staudenmayer and is survived by one daughter Mrs Howell Jones. Burial took place in Racine on Monday afternoon.

Major E. E. Lewis of Spring Green is praised for leading a perilous push at the Marne salient as The Stars and Stripes reports. Five of twenty two runners were killed and twelve wounded in heavy exchange while Major Lewis and his men seized Les Brusses farm and Belleau wood. Lewis was badly gassed and later promoted to lieutenant colonel. Lieutenant Howard I Potter of Baraboo confirms the injuries and hospital stay. Potter is in Italy and due home in March.
