Fires Destroy Two Rural Homes In Webster Prairie Area
On Thursday evening about 5:00 a fire consumed the Hewitt home near Airfield, likely from the chimney. The organ and some furniture were saved as the family fled to relatives. A second blaze Friday at the old Vandeveer farm near Webster Prairie razed the residence of Mr and Mrs Weidman. Neighbors alerted them by phone. only bedding and a table survived. The Weidmans had returned from Baraboo to find the house in ashes. the structure stood a half mile north of Ainsworths Corners, built by pioneer J N Van derveer.
