Christmas Services Across City Churches End Before New Year

Christmas observances filled city churches from First M E to Lutheran and Congregational as choirs, pageants, solos, and nativity plays delighted crowds. Sunday schools distributed gifts and children enjoyed special programs and decorations across multiple parishes.

The Baptist church held a Christmas program with a sermon titled The Bethlehem of the Soul by Rev. H. H. Savage. World Wide Guild presented a play The First Church Christmas Barrel showing a barrel mailed to missionaries and returned with scripture quotes.

Herm an Buelow Killed by Train at Spring Green

Herman Buelow, 70, was struck while attempting to cross a crossing south of the village hall by passenger train No. 14 on Wednesday evening. Witnesses include George Harrison and two other boys who shouted to stop him. he died en route to his home. He leaves a widow and six children. funeral set for Friday at the Congregational church.

Baraboo Opens Season With Extra Period Win Over Madison

The Baraboo and Madison teams opened the season in a tense game tied at 16 after regulation. Thompson scored the decisive two points in overtime as Baraboo won 18 to 16 with Boyd and Thompson strong at forwards and Hillard solid at center. Ada Burnham travels to Ontario California for a milder climate and better health.

Schools Close for Holidays

City schools closed for Christmas vacation with parties and programs this afternoon. Santa Claus visited several locations, bringing trees gifts and joy. The kindergarten hosted a popular celebration with St Nick and children, snacks, games, and festive moments as teachers headed home.

Ringling Gifts Benefit Baraboo High Library

Robert Ringling donates full advertising revenue from his Baraboo entertainment to the high school library. The Ringling brothers also grant free use of the Al Ringling theater. After printing costs, about 418 dollars will be given to the library. the school votes thanks to Mr Ringling.

Small Fire at City Rooming House on Ash and Fourth

An overheated stovepipe ignited the roof of the City Rooming House at Ash and Fourth streets around ten this morning. The fire, fed by a tin roof kitchen at the rear, was rapidly extinguished by the city department. Damage is confined to the kitchen addition and will be repaired with a short new roofing section. The rooming house is operated by Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Heldt.

Old Resident Anna Erffmeyer Dies in Adams

Mrs. Anna Erffmeyer widow of Charles J. H. Erffmeyer died at her son S J Erffmeyer’s home in Adams after a one day illness. She lived in Baraboo most of her life before moving to Adams three years ago. She leaves several children besides Silas. Remains sent to Baraboo for funeral services Tuesday at 2 PM from the Evangelical church conducted by Rev. C E Maves.

Bank Robbery at Pleasant Plains State Bank

A masked robber held up the Pleasant Plains State bank cashier on Thursday and stole about 500 dollars in receipts, fleeing in a small automobile. The incident occurred in Pleasant Plains, Illinois.

Mr and Mrs E F Setzke of Sauk City returned from Milwaukee where they attended the funeral of Herman Setzke aged 71 father of E F Setzke.

Baraboo Youth Struck by Auto Near Free Methodist Church

Wilbur Hanley about 14, son of Mrs. Maude Hanley, was hit crossing Seventh Avenue near Angie Street around 8 PM Thursday. He is in critical condition at St. Mary’s Ringling hospital with a fractured skull and possible internal injuries. The Kilbourn driver Colburn gave his name. two cars approached from opposite directions as he crossed.

Elks Christmas Party Delights Baraboo Children

A large Baraboo crowd attended the Elks annual Christmas festival at the Al Ringling theater. Santa Claus distributed gifts and the High School Band performed as Jimmie Glasgow entertained the youngsters with songs and readings. About 1,500 children received bags of popcorn apples candy and nuts.
