Board Votes for Return of Pastor

A local board approved the return of a pastor for another year. The decision followed a vote by board members amid ongoing questions about leadership and community role.

Carnegie Funds to Aid Baraboo Organ Purchase

At the first M. E. church fourth quarterly conference Rev. E. P. Hall was approved to return for another year. A new pipe organ costing about $2,500 is planned with funds partly from Andrew Carnegie who will match half of $1,740 if the church raises the remaining half. Committees were formed and the organ fund report presented. Rev. C E K Dixon attended from Madison. The annual conference will be held at Mineral Point and Bishop may appoint Hall to Baraboo again.

Mrs. Bossard’s Europe Tour Ends in Illness

Mrs. M. Bossard arrived home in Spring Green after a Europe tour cut short by illness. In Switzerland she suffered paralysis that developed slowly and led physicians there to urge immediate return to the United States. En route across the ocean her condition worsened and she remained under care. Dr. Bossard, unaware of her illness until meeting her in Chicago, reports that her left side and speech are impaired.

Guests in Kirkland gathered for a surprise birthday party honoring Mrs. H O Terwilliger. An elaborate cake, roses, and gifts from assistants and hotel guests filled her table before a special supper was served, all arranged without the hostess’s knowledge.

Caledonia Wedding Couples Join Missionary Path

Rev J Wallace Baird of Caledonia and Miss Maud R Edgerton of Hanover Illinois wed August 1 at the bride’s home and plan a mission to Mansurah Egypt. Attendants include Miss Mary Baird of Timber Lake and George F Gillespie of Pittsburg.

Conductor Struck By Rock In Hobos Incident

Conductor Homer Kelley, working on a new line between Friendship and Winona, was struck in the face by a rock thrown from a hobo as the train pulled out from Marsh Field. He suffered ragged wounds but escaped serious injury and will be off work about a week.

Tragic Death From Ingested Matches in Willow

Frank Bryant two year old son of Mr and Mrs Stephen Bryant of Willow Richland county died after swallowing a quantity of matches. He was left alone for a time and found later still eating the matches. Medical aid came too late to save him.

Mrs. Stoik Celebrates Eightieth Birthday in Powers Michigan

Mrs. Stoik mother of Mrs. Fred Mould of Baraboo marked her 80th birthday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Smith in Powers Michigan. She resides with her daughter Mrs. Smith. Nine children, 26 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren attended. A Powers band serenade on the lawn, dancing, gifts, and flowers highlighted the event.

Engagement Ring Buried With Miss Alice Mullen

Miss Alice Mullen was laid to rest Thursday in Madison after Tuesday morning’s auto tragedy. Crowds gathered at St. Raphael’s Church for a solemn requiem high mass by Rev. T. B. Johnson. Pallbearers included Charles and Eugene Casserly Alvin Kessler Newman Hster John Blied and Lawrence Bowden. Eight girl chums served as honorary pallbearers.

Balloon Race Begins From Kansas City to Germany

Seven balloons started from Kansas City for the international balloon race to Germany. Uncle Sam, piloted by Captain H. E. Honeywell, won, descending at Manassas Virginia 925 miles away and beating last year’s Lt. Lahm record by 445 miles. Drifter and Kansas City Sl. also compete. Uncle Sam entry belongs to Kansas City Aero Club. A storm shortened the flight, with one balloon landing near Spring Green in the county.

Morning Wedding at Walrath Home

Miss da May marries Wilbert N. King in a morning ceremony at the Walrath residence Lake Street attended by close family and friends. Rev GK Hall officiates. The couple shared a milestone dinner then departed by noon train to Oshkosh where they will reside. King manages a local store, and both hail from the Peck Mercantile family in the area.

Pay for Frolic at Loganville

Five young men from a village near Loganville faced charges after resisting an officer during a June fair. The incident drew in Baraboo district officials and attorneys. Each man was fined $20 plus costs totaling $100, with funds contributed by Thomas Goodell, Homer Goodell, William Webster, Louis Webster, and Homer Hart. Child dies after ingesting carbolic acid at Pleasant Hill

At the home of Mr and Mrs Everett Miller in Richland County a curious child climbed to a table, drank carbolic acid mistaken for medicine, and despite early signs of recovery she died after rapid decline. A doctor was called and the incident prompted a solemn end.

Light talk at the City Hall on Baraboo boulevard lights

City hall meeting discusses a boulevard lighting plan for Baraboo. Mayor Thaerer says many cities adopt the system and proposes property owners and store occupants pay for installation while the city bears the cost of lighting. Estimated 75 cents per foot. 66 lights in business district and about 300 in residential areas.
