Bancroft Declines Renomination in Wisconsin Primary

Attorney General Levi H. Bancroft of Richland Center will not seek renomination or any office this fall. He cited current political conditions and hinted that Senator Walter C. Owen of St. Croix County is likely to succeed him, noting over 2 million dollars in inheritance taxes collected under his watch.

Max Hager of Reedsburg arranged purchase of the Fred Ireke farm on the road to the miner. If the deal closes, he will move to the Friest. Mr. and Mrs. Fricke and family may move into Barn 90. Hager sold his farm southwest of Reedsburg, the former Dorneck place, to Herman Felske for 13000 with possession in mid September.

Funeral of Miss Maria Denison Held at Third Avenue Home

The funeral for Miss Maria Denison was conducted Wednesday afternoon at her Third Avenue home by Rev. L A Goddard of the Congregational church. Mrs G W Andrews and Mrs Minnie Duncan sang as pallbearers and attendees from out of town included Mrs D M Linnell and Mrs Belle Linnell. Denison was the last of her family in this branch and the home will close in a few days. Mrs T B Jones was summoned to Ram ph today due to illness in the family.

Potatoes Good Crop Deepens as Prices Hold

Dealers pay just fifty cents a bushel for new potatoes and a large crop is reported. Lewis Cowles dug unusually large potatoes on August 1 amid fine weather and intermittent rains, signaling a heavy fall harvest.

Pleaded Guilty at Capital City

The Greeks held on charges of stealing from laborers’ cars in the yards were brought to Madison. One of the two pleaded guilty before Judge EK. Ray Stevens and received a sentence of one year at the Green Bay reformatory. The other was practically freed. Prosecution by District Attorney John A. Malone.

Minstrel Show Shines at Kirkland Pavilion Event

At Devils Lake State Park the Kirkland pavilion hosts a Friday minstrel show before 150 plus attendees. William R. Curtis of Chicago led the performance with solos by Bertha Guthman and Mabel Jones. Bands at State Fair feature large Sousa-like concert group

Joseph Clauder's State Fair band, a fifty-piece ensemble modeled after Sousa, will perform on the Wisconsin Exposition grounds this fall for four concert days. Nine other top bands from Portage to Madison join, with Wausau and Grand Rapids playing two days each and the rest one day apiece across Tuesday through Saturday assignments.

Beekeeper Sting At Evangelical Cemetery Wounds Mueller Women

Last Tuesday Mrs. Mueller and her daughter Erna from Durward's Glen were stung by bumble bees while tending the grave of Charles Mueller in the Evangelical cemetery. Mrs. Mueller suffered eye injuries. Erna’s arm and limbs swelled, leaving them nauseated. They returned home more puffed than before.

Mrs. August Koepp Dies After Operation

Mrs. August Koepp of Caledonia died at Madison General Hospital after an operation yesterday. The body was brought to Baraboo then home to Caledonia for a Friday 11 am funeral. She was 61, born in Germany, resident of Caledonia 46 years, survived by a husband two sisters and ten children including Julius, Emil, Alexander, Wilbert, Louise, Martha, Laura, and Clara Koepp plus others in Portage Baraboo North Dakota and South Dakota.

Reedsburg Library Receives Donation

Reedsburg Library accepted a donation from an unnamed contributor in Washington, D. C. The gift supports library programs and community services.

Gift from Ward funds library start in Reedsburg

The city of Reedsburg received a 1009 donation from the late Mrs. Ward of Washington DC to be used for library purposes. Her will provided 1000 to Reedburg for establishing the library, reflecting her lifelong interest in education and art. Mrs. Ward was known locally for visiting Reedsburg and supporting institutions, including the donation of the library site by her daughter Mrs. Geo. T. Morse.

Prisoner Escape Prompts Grand Jury Probe

A grand jury was ordered by Marinette Circuit Judge W B Quin lan for August 6 to investigate the escape of Edward Jamison from the Sauk county jail. Jamison slipped out through an unlocked door while Sheriff Schwittay and undersheriff Oscar Johnson were at a country dance. Johnson resigned, alleges locked custody by Schwittay or his wife, and seeks investigation.

Mad Dog Unleashes Havoc Then Is Killed at Denman Farm

A mad dog owned by Charles Denman of Richland county disrupted stock on the Denman farm after being untied. It attacked cattle and other stock before returning home and being killed. J A Murray and family plan to move from Prairie du Chien to Baraboo, occupying 1023 East street.
