Amusing Quips and Notices From an Old Ledger

A colonial era style column gathers jests and anecdotes about weddings, thieves, clever hucksters, and petty ironies. It recalls a town in Pennsylvania tease, a mocked herald, a mispronounced pledge, and several comic exchanges about shoes, corn meal, and counterfeit notes. The piece sketches social foibles with names, places, and rough dialogue, preserving a snapshot of everyday humor and minor misdeeds.
