Wisconsin in 1836 Map Reveals Early Territory and Rail Network
The Sauk County Historical Society received George J. Seaman's 1836 map showing Wisconsin as the Northwest Territory with three counties and sparse roads. It details early rail lines from Boston to Dunkirk, Milwaukee as Potawatomi Village, Illinois and Michigan outlines, and a population of 12,866,020 with 2,009,050 slaves. The map, bought in 1900, was donated August 7, 1908.
