Baraboo Wins the Drill Prize at Knights of Pythias Meet

Baraboo Lodge No. 47 captured first place in a district Knights of Pythias drill contest held in Baraboo. Reedsburg and Kendall also competed with Baraboo edging Reedsburg by two points for a silver cup awarded by Baraboo Valley League. The event drew officers, delegates, and visitors, with remarks from state officers and a tour of town after the contest.

Peculiar Gase in Sumpter

On May 1 in Sumpter Henry Young, 14 months old, son of Mr and Mrs Erwin Young, fell and cut his upper lip badly. The wound bled for 48 hours, the child grew weak and suffered convulsions.

Crushing Rock for Good Roads in Freedom County

The article shows the first annual report by J. T. Donaghey, county highway commissioner, detailing a county crushing plant in Freedom. It describes an old Baraboo crusher with bins, a rock car hauled by a cable system, a spray tank usable as a wagon, and water pumped from Seely Creek about 1000 feet away by a small gasoline engine.

Prices have risen sharply with pork and veal roughly doubling and live fowls significantly higher today, while ducks and geese moved from dressed to live prices. A mass meeting at the Friendship court house Tuesday evening formed a committee to approach the Co. and N. W. Ry. about building a spur from the main line to the village. The committee met the officers. outcome awaits their head office report. It is believed the village may receive the spur.

Meeting of Mission Club at Congregational Church

The monthly Mission Club meeting was held yesterday afternoon with Mrs. John Williams and Mrs. Whitcomb assisting. Mrs. Donovan presented a paper on Labrador and Dr. Grenfell, Florence Farwell performed a piano solo, Mrs. Luce spoke on Eskimo Children, and Helen Whitcomb sang a solo. Refreshments followed.

Birthday Celebration for Mrs. Andrew Lee at 90

Mrs. Andrew Lee, mother of Mrs. C. O. Setten, celebrated her 90th birthday in Madison Wisconsin on April 20. The event featured remarks by Christian G. Lee of Baraboo and included children grandchildren and great grandchildren from several towns. Relatives and neighbors attended about 25 great grandchildren were noted.

Buff Orpington Eggs Hatch 14 Birds for Egg Claim

Farmer Fred Paddock near town bought Buff Orpington eggs from Ernest Sanderson last September. He hatched 14 birds and selected six pullets this spring, claiming they laid 89 eggs in 15 consecutive days.

Mrs. J. W. Sutherland reports Haley's comet visible at dawn from Baraboo with a brilliant head and a long gauzy tail. The sight rises about 5 50 each morning east of the city and is expected to brighten, peak around May 18 near the sun, then reappear in the west before fading from view.

Water Commission Grants Sprinkling Privilege To Emil Schudlich

The water commission at city hall approved Emil Schudlich to sprinkle streets with three wagons at 50 then 25 then 25 dollars. A request to extend the East Street main from Eighth to Tenth was referred to the common council. Several claims were allowed including Wisconsin Telephone and various rent rebates, postage, express, labor and supplies, and Johnston Lumber Company coal totaling 157.25.

Stewart Operated on for Blood Poisoning in Madison

Alex Stewart and his son John traveled to Madison on Saturday for hospital surgery after a blister on the hand became infected. Doctors inserted several drainage tubes and the patient is progressing as well as could be expected.
