Van Wie Served Time and Jail Delivery Reported
Former Sheriff E. E. Nichols of Woodland says J. H. Van Wie served time for furnishing a law to a prisoner in the county jail. Van Wie had been jailed and discharged, then returned with a saw, rode a freight train to Baraboo, circled the east part of town, and arrived at the jail from the north. He was arrested at Portage after the jail delivery and completed his term under Sheriff Meyers. Nichols notes a Kansas City message questioning Van Wie’s status. He married in western county, and his wife later remarried and now lives in Summit.

Screens Gone Wrong at Cummings Boarding House
A south side business man caused a late night disturbance at Cummings boarding house by taking curtain stretchers and door screens. Miss Cummings spied him from a window and alarms spread as officers searched. Screens were later found discarded near a tree, and the man may return with a dark lantern for future borrowing.
