Notes from Foley Alabama: Eggs and trade amid growth
Prosperity spreads through Foley with high egg demand keeping prices at 20 to 25 cents a dozen in summer and rising to 40 cents in winter. Chickens fetch strong prices in Mobile and Pensacola while local demand lags. New buildings rise, Magnolia Shingle ships poles daily, stores do robust business, and livery stables struggle to meet horse and rig demand. Freshwater fishing near lakes 15 miles south yields 200 to 300 fish per day and a half. About 15 home-seekers arrived on a excursion, buying 15 forty acre lots and three town lots. Elberta peaches shipped in quantity.
