Murder and moral reckoning in Ottumwa sermon
In a February 1876 Ottumwa sermon Rev. J Sunderland denounces Carroll Jones's murder of Harry Booz, lambasts liquor sellers and bystanders, and calls for strict enforcement of anti drinking laws. He warns of societal danger from drunkenness, urges civic duty, and condemns complicity in saloon culture.
