Mrs. Lena Augusta Backhaus Villeman aged 85 died May 11 1970 in Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital She was born June 10 1884 in Pipe Creek and married Joe Villemann in 1906 The family ranch in Pipe Creek area included four children Funeral services were held May 13 at Plummer Funeral Home Chapel Bandera with ministers from Bandera and Pipe Creek. She is survived by three daughters a son ten grandchildren four great grandchildren and a sister.

Deadline for filing campaign expense statements in Second Primary
The deadline is May 29 for candidates to file sworn statements of campaign contributions and expenses. The first filing day is May 27. Statements must be filed with the County Clerk for county office candidates.

County Democratic Convention Held in Bandera
The Bandera County Democratic Convention met last Saturday at the Bandera Court House. Chairman Marvin Hay presided and Carmen C. Hicks was elected permanent secretary. Delegates to the State Democratic convention on September 15, 1970 were D. W. Hicks, Mrs. Hicks, and John H. Nixon, with alternates Mrs. John H. Nixon and A. J. Flowers.

Absentee Balloting Opens May 21 for Second Primary
May 27 marks the first day for voting absentee in person or by mail and for residents with less than six months in county. The Second Primary Election is set for June 6, 1970. June 2, 1970 is the last day for in person absentee voting and for ballot by mail applications, and the final day to vote in the Second Primary.
Outstanding Bandera Teacher Honored for Conservation Work
Terry F. Robbins of Bandera High School, a vocational agriculture teacher, won Region II Outstanding Conservation Teacher. The award, presented May 8 in Big Spring, was sponsored by the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce and Robbins was nominated by the Bandera SWCD.

Harold White announces the Texas state convention of the Submarine Veterans of World War II will be held at the Montague Ranch on May 29 to 31, 1970.
