The Ban area Chamber of Commerce held a February meeting at Lost Valley Ranch to discuss growth and an advertising drive. Funds raised surpassed $2,000 cash with pledges over $1,000 in just two and a half days, and fundraising continues to March 10 with another general meeting planned at Lost Valley Ranch.
Jessie T Pennington longtime Bandera resident died in San Antonio hospital after an extended illness. Funeral at Plummer Chapel Tuesday February 25 at 2 pm with Rev J Manley Reynolds officiating burial in Bandera cemetery beside his wife. Survivors include four daughters three sons one sister thirteen grandchildren eleven great grandchildren active pallbearers named.
Texas Public Schools Week will be observed with special programs all next week starting Monday March 4 at 1 pm. Public invited to attend and visit classrooms. The schedule includes Exhibits and Primary Parent Orientation Monday 1 4 pm Tuesday 2 30 4 30 pm Parent Teacher Study Course Thursday Band Clinic 4 6 pm Hale Aikin Committee Meeting Thursday 7 30 pm National Honor Society Program Friday 11 30 am. Also Tuesday night at 7 30 the Comfort and Nueces Canyon Girls First Round Regional Basketball playoff in Bandera School Gymnasium.
Congressman O C Fisher reports Rural Electrification Association approval of a 790000 loan to Bandera Electric Cooperative Inc. The loan funds 89 miles of new power lines and will serve 347 new families across Bandera Uvalde Real Kerr and Kendall counties led by A H Schott of Bandera.
Elmer Hargrove announces his bid for Bandera County County Judge in the Democratic Primary on July 26 1958. He notes 35 years old wife Annie Hohenberger Tarpley three children wartime U S Air Force service three and a half years and a reputation for honesty.
At a Bandera PTA meeting on February 25 Brownie Marta King presented a Citizen of 1958 Award and Friendship pin to Bandera Public Schools superintendent Marvin C Schnelle for providing meeting spaces and supporting Girl Scouting. Troop I members and local officials officiated at ceremonies with national colors and music.
The Hale Aikin Committee will meet on March 6 at 7 30 p m in the Homemaking room at Ban dera High School.
The notice informs that Mrs Irving Billings is on the sick list and wishes her a speedy recovery.
The Bandera Livestock Improvement Association will meet Thursday March 6 at 8 p.m. in the Ag Center to elect officers for the 1959 Junior Livestock Show and discuss proposed rule changes. All are invited to attend.
SSgt. John L. Lewis a flight engineer at Harlingen AFB received the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award ribbon. He was with the 54th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron on Guam for locating and tracking fourteen typhoons to gather vital data. He and his wife Claudia and daughter Leslie Dee are now stationed at Harlingen. He is the son of Mrs. Julius Mazurek Jr. of Bandera.

Frank Montague Sr and John Saul visited Georgetown on Tuesday where Montague bought six Charolaise bulls from Dr. C. H. Langford and his brother Othel. Four bulls will be sent to the D’Hanis ranch and two to the Eagle Pass ranch. Hug Moore also bought a Langford bull.
Funeral services for Mrs. Robert Ewen wife of Houston Oil Field Material Co. Inc. vice president were held February 22 at George H. Lewis and Sons in Houston. Entombment followed in Forest Park Mausoleum. She died in St Marys Hospital Galveston at age 70. She had lived in Houston 42 years and was born in Giddings. Survivors include her husband two children a sister a granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
The Bulldog Band announces a concert on March 13 in the gym at eight o'clock with wide ranging selections including contest numbers. A band clinic by Mr. Preischer of Kerrville on March 6 will assess the Contest selections after afternoon practice for band improvement. The public is invited to attend the band hall event after school.
Sam B. Culpepper of the Texas State Teachers Association spoke at Bandera PTA in the Band Hall. Superintendent Marvin C. Schnelle introduced him, and the Brownies then presented a fine program. A business meeting followed with notices of upcoming PTA events and a preschool meeting.
A business visitor named Hand of Medina called on city officials Monday visiting local offices and discussing potential commercial interests in the area.
