Oil booster J Crawford tours Illinois well near Altamont

A Baker Sentinel report notes J Crawford and Ernest Orchisene visited Baker as Crawford promotes the Great Baker field. Oil was found in Crawford well No 1 on the Wingal lease at 290 feet in a 12 foot sand with deeper sands planned for further drilling toward 2500 feet.

Fallon County Receives 31 000 000 for Stocks and Crops

Fallon County and six neighboring counties reported 12 510 000 in livestock and grain sales last year per the Montana Farm Review issued by the Montana Cooperative Crop Reporting Service and State Agriculture Departments. Laker Women's Club Holds First Session

The Baker semic hall hosted the first meeting on September 9 with many members present. A paper by C. J. Millard on the General Federation featured, plus a musical program including Gustave Foret and Lucile Waltérs. Hostesses included Coritt, Blakemore, Doppler, Bruggeman, Johnson, Blanchard, and Dousman. A social hour with tea and wafers followed.

Convention Special Will Pick Up Vets On Journey East

The American Legion train carrying Washington state Legionaires to the St Paul national convention may be joined by Montana and Minnesota members. Adjutant W L Jones advised local officials to arrange passage through the passenger agent, with Washington and Minnesota departments coordinating en route. Fallon County hosts horse shoe tournament Friday with prizes, open to top two local pitchers under national rules.

Tom and Dick Traweek visited from their farm twenty miles south of Baker. Al Hansen bought a new Esser six sedan from P. E. Hubbard, the local dealer. Marmarth boys attended the dance Saturday night, and Mr and Mrs N B Bergum spoke of a sunny trip in the south country with roads in good shape apart from ongoing work.

County Fair and Defense Day Celebration In Baker

The Fallon county fair joins Defense Day in Baker today drawing visitors from across the region. Events include a mobilization parade speeches a barbecue and exhibit judging with $300 in cash prizes. A lumber yard show and a wrestling card head the entertainment along with Masonic picnic attendance and local farm news.

Life Imprisonment Given to Loeb and Leopold

In Chicago on September 10 Judge Caverly sentenced Richard Loeb and Nathan Leopold Jr. to life imprisonment for the murder of a fourteen year old boy. The defense achieved a complete victory as Caverly lingered in his chambers after the ruling. Guards surrounded the judge as he left, and onlookers remained uncertain about when the two would be moved to Joliet.
