New Water Right Code Advocated by Montana Congress
The Montana Land Settlement Congress gathered at Helena March 10 11 1924 to promote farm settlement and improved water rights. It urges a state water code similar to other irrigation states and calls for coordinated actions with the U S Department of Agriculture and Montana Experiment Station to provide soil and patent information for settlers. The document endorses near term stock raising trials at Fort Keogh and supports a broad program of land settlement aided by railroads and a state agriculture bureau, aiming for long term leases, amortized land payments, and lower taxes to foster agriculture in Montana.
