With high wheat prices, more spring wheat will be planted on irrigated land this spring. Experiments show Marquis, Scotch Fife, Bluestem and durum varieties yield strongly under irrigation, averaging 52.4 to 68 bushels per acre over multiple years. Plant early by mid April and seed at 2 to 2.5 bushels per acre. Wheat planted April 15 averaged 65.9 bushels. May 15 averaged 49.8. Early irrigation yields better quality.
