Peter Dawson of Rainy River Lumber company Rainy River Ont was fatally injured after his foot was caught in a dog on a slasher chain. His body was pulled downward to the waist and his flesh and bones were mutilated. He died fifteen minutes after reaching Spooner hospital. Dawson was from Duluth and left a family there.
Mrs. John D. Rockefeller attended church with her husband in Cleveland marking a rare summer outing due to illness. He has been taking sermon notes each Sunday to bring insights home to his wife.

High winds caused a forest fire in Bender park near Lead, South Dakota, surging beyond volunteer firemen's control and menacing the city. Homestake Mining Company mobilized several hundred miners to help, and officials hope the blaze can be contained now.
