Ann Landers autographs books at Nemitz and Word Drug stores after a talk at Austin High School. She also spoke to Austin and Pacelli students and attended a Herald coffee hour with community leaders. Proceeds from ticket sales support the United Fund as the paper marks its 70th anniversary.
Former President Eisenhower complains about a State Department pamphlet that implies he chose not to seize Berlin before the Soviets. He may address lawmakers touring Gettysburg today about the issue. Rep Melvin Laird denounced the pamphlet as a misrepresentation and urged withdrawal.
Tickets for Ann Landers at Austin High School auditorium go on sale at the door with a 50 cent charge donated to the United Fund. Miss Landers will speak at 7 30 p m sharing experiences as a columnist and discussing youth and adult problems. Box office opens at 645 p m.

The chartered American plane DC6B Theodore Roosevelt crashed into the Shannon estuary near Shannon, Ireland, killing 83 aboard including 77 European passengers and six American crew. Rescue workers labored in mud as tides threatened the wreckage and investigators sought the cause.
A storm bulletin from a Dutch ship reported Hurricane Debbie, following Betsy, is not expected to threaten the United States. Debbie formed off Africa and was tracked over the Atlantic with its center about 1,350 miles east northeast of San Juan, after a prior forecast of a westerly path.
Firefighters battled a blaze that consumed a barn built two years earlier after a prior fire. The scene drew Rose Creek Adams and Austin units by 5 p.m. and operations continued until 2:15 a.m. A cow and calf were rescued. The barn housed 3,000 bales of hay and straw valued at about 2,500, with a 16,000 dollar structure and damaged milking equipment.
Armour and Co. announced a three year contract in Chicago ensuring workers retained with pay if machines replace them. The pact with United Packinghouse, Food and Allied Workers of America and Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America includes a 19 cent per hour wage increase over the term and a technology adjustment pay program labeled TAP.
A Knutson affiliate valued above 5.6 million dollars faces stockholder vote today as it joins with International, forming subsidiaries in a real estate development move. Arnold J. Ryden Jr. is named chief executive officer designate.
