Auto fire ends mail route in Mona Iowa area
Dorothy DeBoer substitute mail carrier on the route southeast of Mona Iowa started her day with a car fire. After the engine burst into flames she saved the mail by ferrying it to a ditch and received help from a CB radio passerby who alerted the St Ansgar Fire Dept. The car was a total loss but DeBoer finished the route using a borrowed car. She lost personal belongings but kept a positive view.

Regents honor Lundberg for lipid research leadership
Walter O. Lundberg, University of Minnesota biochemistry professor and Hormel Institute director from 1941 to 1974, received an Outstanding Achievement Award at a Board of Regents meeting. OKLAHOMA CITY AP Ratification of a new contract by members of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America was announced Thursday by Wilson & Co. The agreement retroactive to Sept 1 calls for a 60 cent per hour raise over three years, a better cost of living formula, enhanced pension benefits and improved health insurance. The contract covers about 6,000 workers at Wilson's 14 plants including 1,200 at Albert Lea Minnesota.
