Dealers Seek to End Gas War in Des Moines
Des Moines area gas station operators called a Tuesday night meeting to halt the price war now in its second week. A spokesman said the goal is to stabilize gasoline prices with a decent margin and unite against company operations. Gas prices have fallen to 24.9 cents a gallon for regular and 25.9 to 29.9 for premium, below earlier levels of about 31.5 and 34.0 respectively. The spokesman noted major companies can sustain cuts, but many dealers cannot, saying they are dominated by oil firms pushing margins down.

Sewer Ditch Cave-in Fatal to Worker in Richfield

National Guardsmen with tanks and jeeps moved into Oliver Springs Tennessee to quell a mob of more than 250 angered residents amid racial tensions linked to Clinton High School integration.
