Public debt rises due to bank deposits over redemptions

Washington on September 2 reports the U S treasury closed the second fiscal month with a $3,273,325 rise in the public debt and a total deficit of $17,371,468.98. Working balance stood at $30,826,057.23 and the general fund at $89,523,207.59 reflecting a better balance vs July despite a near $3 million fund drop. A year ago the deficit was about $10 million higher and receipts and disbursements show a improving trend. In Menominee Michigan Martin Thorson a prosperous farmer died in a barn fire at Stephenson aged fifty six leaving a widow and three children.
