Three Italian workers at the Dodge washery of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western line were ambushed by a mob returning from work. Two were rescued by police and taken to Lackawanna hospital while Joseph Braun fled to Bellevue where four men beat him again, leaving him insensible and bleeding but not fatally injured. No arrests have been made.
Shenandoah Pa Oct 23 Workmen reported at Mill Creek Coal company Vulcan colliery were told to sign a contract at the company store before instatement. A number signed but many refused and returned home.
Nearly 1,000 workers at Hazel Glass and Metal and Atlas Glass and Metal plants walked out at dusk after officials refused to recognize the glass workers' union. The plants are completely shut down.
King Oscar of Sweden and Norway has ruled against the United States and Great Britain in the Samoan controversy, affirming that the 1899 joint landing at Apia and related actions were not legally warranted. The decision addresses damages claims by citizens of the involved nations and France, with full implications for national honor and future arbitration.

In McKinney Texas, Oct 23 a hotel blaze in Fairview, a three story frame building, left one woman dead Miss Smith a school teacher two men fatally injured John Allen and Matthias another woman severely hurt and four others badly burned. The fire began in the basement and the fatally injured reportedly jumped from the third story window. Copy of trust deed filed.
Memphis Tennessee October 23 The National Wagon Manufacturers association met in Memphis and elected officers for the coming term President George R James of Memphis and Secretary Treasurer W A Rosenfield of Moline Illinois New leadership reflects the trade group’s regional spread and organizational stability.
In Copenhagen the lands thing rejected the second reading of the Denmark United States treaty bill to cede the Danish West Indies. The vote was 32 to 32 with two abstentions. Rightists and two Independent Conservatives opposed while Leftists and six Independent Conservatives supported it, causing uproar in the house.
Ex Senator Hill endorses allegations that Governor Odell pursued mercenary aims in state contracts and charitable institutions. Odell denies ties to former business associates and denounces Hill as a self serving figure. The dispute followed Hill’s remarks at a Tammany Hall rally in New York with a Portland convention closing in Maine.
