Another Baltimore bond company also bonded Neely for about 30000 dollars. settlement likely to prompt further action.
J B McLean of Minneapolis was accidentally killed while hunting near Koos Landing Lake County. The fatal shot nearly struck Attorney General W B Douglass of Minnesota, who was present. The misidentification occurred when settler George Jentsch mistook McLean’s fur cap for a deer and fired. McLean’s body was later transported to Minneapolis.
In Omaha on November 14, Swedish laborer Peter Miller attempted self harm with a knife, then crushed his skull with an iron pin, used a hatchet, and fled in night clothes. Found later suspended from a furniture van, his body badly hacked. authorities consider him likely insane.
A serious riot in Oelwein Iowa on November 14 involved Great Western shop workers clashing with non union men replacing strikers. The mob assaulted the non union men, leaving several seriously hurt and two beaten into unconsciousness as police and deputies were unavailable to restore order.
Three of five expert engravers who arrived from England a year ago and found work in a Hackensack wallpaper factory may be deported for violating the contract labor law. The engravers appeared before the board of special inquiry and were ordered deported. Their case was appealed to the secretary of the treasury and they will be detained pending his decision.

The November federal grand jury indicted Harry Longbaugh alias John Arnold and Laura Bullion on 17 counts each. Great Northern Railway express messenger William O Neill and fireman William O Neill testified Longbaugh led the Wagner Montana heist last July stealing 100000 in unsigned Helena bank notes and blew open the safe after climbing the tender and threatening the crew. Authorities hope to trial him in Montana where the offense carries death. officials discuss broader reforms.
Nine youths and junk dealer Jacob Kolis accused in a Chicago ghetto case described as a school of crime. Kolis and boys allegedly coerced theft, with threats to kill and even orders to shoot. Plot to murder a local truancy officer was also planned, aided by a six year old girl.

A cavern at Orange near Joplin Missouri swallows the entire Aurora Mining company plant including a 100-ton mill office building and engine house along with six gravel cars and a tailing pile. No lives were lost though six workers narrowly escaped as timbers cracked and sank just minutes before the last man surfaced. Further caving is feared and nearby work is suspended with damage totals undetermined.
