Chicago Nov 12 James J Hill headlined a Merchants' club banquet and urged reciprocity with Canada. He warned of a transportation shortage and argued that expanding trade with Canada and other nations outweighs canal gains. He cited Panama trade figures and called for liberal, selfless policy shifts.
Six people were injured when a balloon ascension in Mount Venon Illinois on November 12 toppled and knocked down by a mule used to support the bag. Two injuries were serious as the balloon rose into the air and then collapsed.
A garbled list of college football or basketball scores includes teams such as East Harvasa, Princeton, Amherst, Notre Dame, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Holy Cross. Several entries are incomplete or misspelled, making outcomes and dates hard to determine.

Complete returns from 96 of 105 counties show George Hoch with a 2,060 vote lead over Democrat William A Harris. Remaining small counties are expected to narrow Hochs plurality to about 2,000 or less. Democratic managers concede Hoch will win but say the margin is under 2,000. Party leaders hail the drop from nearly 67,000 in 1904 to under 2,000 in 1906 as a victory.
In Tiflis on Nov 12 a loud bomb rocked an unoccupied residence during a police search. Three officers were killed and four wounded as a snare erupted after a blue flame flash near a window. Proclamations were found under a bed, and the building collapsed. The trap was set in the Tartar quarter linked to the massacre-era tension.
After talks in Chicago, switchmen on lines from Chicago to the Pacific coast gain 4 cents an hour. Eastern lines settle for arbitration on further increases, while Western lines get 4 cents. About 22,000 switchmen nationwide benefit, including 600 in the Twin Cities and 1,200 on northern lines. The new schedule takes effect November 1.

In Brussels a royal statement affirms Belgian policy on Congo independence debates. Despite physician advice, the king declines travel to Vienna as parliament plans to discuss Congo issues and possible independence.
King Haakon of Norway and Queen Maud visit England joining Crown Prince Olav at Spithead before touring Windsor Castle. King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra host them during their stay as royal yachts Victoria and Albert dock at Spithead.
The Chicago Tribune reports a gigantic theatrical combination forming to control about half of the United States theaters from New York to San Francisco. It plans to dictate bookings and tours, with properties valued in the tens of millions and a new Illinois corporation with capital between 50 and 60 million dollars.
Mobile Alabama November 12 Fire destroyed the plant yards of the Mobile Hardwood company causing heavy loss. The blaze is not under control and serious damage is feared.
Gust Anderson, a farmer near Kelsey Minnesota, has moved his family to Duluth for safety during deer hunting season. He says the risk of mistaken identity when his children enter the woods and stray bullets threaten all on the farm.
Governor Johnson received from the national government a 5 percent share totaling 9 651.28 dollars for Minnesota from the net proceeds of public land sales for the year ending June 30, 1906. The payment is provided by the 1857 law.
A Democratic mass meeting in Cooper Tex on November 12 endorsed Governor John A Johnson of Minnesota for the presidency. Resolutions praised his honesty and executive ability.
Arthur Deane of Sherburne was found dead in a creek one mile west of Granada after disappearing Thursday evening. He had been in town about a week for treatment and was missing until the search started the following morning.
In Beaudette Minnesota on November 12 the big game season opened after a light Friday snowfall. Reports indicate plentiful moose and deer, with moose especially abundant. Several hunting parties have begun from Beaudette to pursue the game.

All electoral committees in Odessa and surrounding provinces are dissolved and their functions moved to town councils. Committees arrangements are cancelled and officers removed from wall posters by police. The move aims to curb mass involvement in the election of members to the lower house of parliament, creating a painful impression.
Reports from Yekaterinoslav and Kishinev state 104 men were banished for minor political offenses. Local governors dismiss officials who refuse to quit the Constitutional Democratic party and promise promotions or banishment if they stay aligned with opposition factions.

Carlisle, November 12. Clarence Ligenfitz, 20, shot his sweetheart and cousin Mary Kutz as they returned from church. He then killed himself, after laying in wait for the girl and her grandmother. Mary died of two gunshot wounds. Ligenfitz died by his own hand.
A sneak thief entered Robert Dey’s James Street residence in Syracuse and looted a jewel box containing diamonds and jewelry valued at $8,000. The necklace, a diamond piece with sixty four stones, is valued at $3,000.

Rutland Vermont November 12 Mrs Esther Sumner Damon died at her Plymouth Union home at ninety three years claimed as the last surviving widow of a Revolutionary War soldier. She married Noah Damon in 1885 at age twenty one. he had enlisted in 1775 and served through the war.

She reportedly told officers she started the fire to see people run. The fire caused little damage and prompted an orderly street evacuation among Negro residents.
From El Paso Texas November 12 twelve deaths from a mysterious cause have occurred in Marfa and vicinity in Pecos county within the last few days. Local physicians cannot diagnose or cope with the disease and appealed to the state health department. Dr P J Shaver state health officer at El Paso has been detailed to investigate and is now at Marfa.
Thomas Dougherty, a prominent Dunmore youth, died in Scranton after being stabbed by an unknown woman. He gave no name for the attacker and hinted the assailant was a woman, but suggested he bore some responsibility for the fatal injury.
