London voters produced a calm mayoral vote with near universal acclamation. Most of the 28 mayors of the metropolis were chosen without a contest as Dukes of Norfolk and Bedford withdrew from politics and candidates from populous boroughs were selected after councilmen’s friendly discussions. The lord mayor is a wealthy banker able to bear the Mansion House expenses, and Sir Joseph Dinsdale will receive a peerage at the end of his year in office.
At a colored church near Hopkinsville Kentucky on November 11 Henry Davis fired at Abe Allen while in the same pew. The shot missed Allen but struck Jerrie Wilson on the opposite side and killed him instantly. Davis was arrested.
A three member committee hired by Milwaukee’s Ministerial association released a report detailing alleged law violations including 82 gambling houses 116 saloons with wine rooms and 16 venues tied to questionable resorts. The document accuses city officials of lax licensing and notes clergy support from a dozen pulpits. It exonerates police from revenue gain but cites restraint from higher authorities as a hindrance to duty.
Dispatches from Curacao report President Castro told Celestino Castro in San Cristobal that the United States seeks to mediate between Venezuela and Colombia. Generals Uribe Uribe and Castro rush to obtain details amid Lib eral suspicions and frontier raids. Captain James Stone his wife two children and two sailors spent a perilous night on the wreck before rescue by fishermen. The boat owned by Captain Stone hailed from Gladstone and had loaded wood at Arthur Bay for Green Bay City when the blow struck.
London reports via the Sunday Special that financier J Pierpont Morgan has acquired the White Star line. He has secured cash to purchase the Dominion ne, according to a New York correspondent.
Paymaster P C Stevens from Atlanta arrived in Pensacola with 200 silver dollars and 4800 in paper money to pay artillery at Fort Barancas and Fort McRea l. On opening his satchel after reaching the fort he found the paper money missing and suspects a pickpocket. In Atlanta detectives arrested J H Alexander, a federal employee, on charges of stealing the 4800 dollars from the paymaster’s valise en route to the depot. Detectives continue to investigate.
Otto M. Ekberg, a non-union teamster, was killed by a lone assailant with a two foot gas pipe. Witness Mrs. Alma Miller cannot identify the killer. Earlier during the strike Ekberg and another non-union man faced a mob of 20 union workers and fired in defense, wounding a union man.
In Scranton Pennsylvania on November 11 the Temple Iron company reinstated alleged blacklisted men and prevented a 5000 miner strike. The exact motive for the reversal remains unclear as officials did not disclose reasons.
President Nicholls of the Mine Workers' Order said the Temple company made the concession under pressure from larger firms fearing a general strike. The remark suggests union influence shaped management action amid broader labor tensions.

New York reports the death of Paul Revere, vice president general of the Sons of the American Revolution, in Morristown New Jersey at age 45. He was son of General Joseph Warren Revere and great grandson of Paul Revere.
